Mark,

many thanks!

I'm having some probs, unimaging floppy fails at 99%, BUT, the 99% disk
more or less worked, it came up with 'square' logo, not, the 'wave' warp
3c logo, BUT, I've partitioned OK, and, install started OK, and, no longer
have corrupted HD size values; good progress

install eventually stopped, either due to 99% or due to warp/warp connect
different files expected, I'll continue tomorrow

You should be OK up to 32GB if I remember correctly.

Did you set the partition active in FDISK?

Sorry after reading the other e-mails I realised Warp 3 was limited to
4GB partitions, however I think you are past that stage now. The fact
that your floppy disk builds only complete to 99 percent sounds a little
strange - are you using new floppy disks ? (they're hard to find these
days!). Perhaps it worth doing a full (i.e. not quick) format of the
floppy before you load the image to it so any faulty tracks are locked out ?

Cheers/2

Mark, thanks!!!

necessity being whatever it is, after failing with downloaded disks, I've
deleted unneeded Future Domain SCSI drivers, and, copied the 5 HD support
drivers from the warpdoctor download to newly generated WarpC floppy, and,
managed to install the system

I think... I now need to replace same files on the installed system, FDISK
output seems confused, I guess install copied stuff from CD not floppy,
anhow, I'm significantly further ahead, thanks again

I've tried to hook my old (ex Thinkpad) HD to a PC, using 2.5/3.5 IDE
converter;

when I powered up, the ribbon cable literally caught fire, burning one of
the centre wires....

did I hook it wrongly... ? is it possible to have a dead short... with
2.5/3.5 converter ?

perplexed...

that's exactly (was) the issue, FDISK wouldn't fdisk;

anyhow, with files from updated Warp3 floppy I've managed to make updated
WarpConnect floppy, so far, so good

I was using .bat on windoze, now, I've tried .cmd on Warp, seems I'm
getting past 99%

for all the suggestions

well the 2.5 drives take their power down the ribbon cable, so if either
the cable or the drive has a short, you could get this problem. Might be
worth checking that the IBM drive is using a standard 2.5 pinout as well.

doesn't the power come from power adapter plugged into 2.5/3.5 gizmo ?

I have used the HD in the past, in fact, there was a period of time when I
had that drive plugged 'permanently' in a desktop

in fact, I was trying two TP HD:
160MB from TP750? (with WarpConnect);
8GB from TP770, W4.x

both if them I have used and booted in desktop in the past.

strange...

Unless I am very mistaken, 2.5 inch drives do not have a separate power
connector.

To expand - the power has to come down the data cable - it is indeed fed
into the data cable via the adapter cable, however if I understood the
original post it is the ribbon cable that melted ?

Ed,

ribbon plugs into an adapter, also, power cable plug into the adapter;

the power cables do not seem to connect to the ribbon side
on the hard drive side;
red power connects to 3 pins, black to 1 pin adjacent immediately to it;

it may connect to other pins on disk side, not thoroughly tested yet

Hi Ed,

Thanks for trying. The other vector drawing program which is very good
is XARA EXTREME. I think this was originally a windows program and was
then open sourced and is available for Linux.
