Sure about that? Comparing to the Odin tree, the "pe.exe" executive is
right into the \system32 directory, which would mean I would have to
copy the system32 files in my \Acrobaat\Acrobaat51\ directory, as it's
there that aros2.exe is residing. That could be so on condition the
\system32 hasn't been hardcoded into the executive. Most likely it isn't
as the Innotek thing doesn't create any \system32 directory at all.

OTOH I'm sure aros2.exe works without any of the files in Odin's
\system32 directory. Or to put it an other way aros2.exe works in the
same way as Odin but without any \system32 directory present nor loaded
nor available.

Bottom line: to my taste there is to much of confusion around.

After giving your contact details - to which they'll send you an
introductory e-mail, on the next page for downloads, scroll to near the
bottom to find IBM OS/2 - there's also a Sophos Plugin below that - the
two packages amount to ~18MB.

Enjoy! :-)

Mike

Subject: Re: Innowin/Odin, [was: WarpVision] (Was: Mplayer)

Hi Kris

>And in that way, how do we start a win app?

With Innowin only, using the way Mike suggested, ie
With <path>\ar5os2.exe <winapp>

Innowin is simply a subset of Odin with the required API's
for the Innowin programs to use as helpers. All I do when
ever there is an Odin update, is to simply unzip the latest
odin files, make sure I'm in the new odin root, ie, the
directory that contains the \system32 directory, and
just "xcopy *.* \innowin/h/o/t/s/e/r" making sure I have
copied the system.ini file to system.ini_bck. That way
I retain the Innowin files, with access to the Odin files,
and not have two seperate directory trees.

Innowin doesnt come with a system32 directory, so all
you need to do is to create one in the innowin directory, or
do as I do it will be created when the files are xcopied over.

You can then start win32 apps as per the odin way, ie, using PE.

directory listing of my d:\innowin file is located at
http://www.os2site dot com/innowin.txt for the next couple of
days.

In your config.sys just add D:\INNOWIN\SYSTEM32 to the
PATH and LIBPATH lines. If you move odin over the top
of Innowin after installing it with WarpInstaller, there maybe
registery settings you will need to change, I prefer to use
the zip file.

As always, backup, your milage may vary :-)

If you use the WPS to move the Odin files into your Innowin
directory, the registry and ini file's should be automatically
updated in relation to paths etc. ie, just move the system32
directory over to your Innowin directory, ditto any other
files in the odin root.

update it, ie, open the innowin system.ini file and compare, though
all my system.ini file has is :-

cdaudio=mcicda.drv

[drivers32]
msacm.msadpcm=msadp32.acm

Ignore >>> D:\Acrobaat\Acrobaat51

And just leave the other files in the combined odin/innowin directory
structure.

Innotek products are compiled for OS/2 but use a very small
set of the ODIN API's as helper API's, ie, take any Innotek
OS/2 product and it wont run under Windows anyway. This
is why the Innowin structure is so bare. Were as if you want
to run a real Windows (modern, not Win16) only program, then
you need Odin. I combined the odin and innowin directory's
just to be sure that Java and everything else would have
what it was looking for, also makes more sense for me anyway
to put all the Win32 stuff in one directory instead of splitting it.

If that makes sense :-)

aros2.exe has already been "os/2 ised", and will use entries in
the system ini files to find anything else it needs. I should go
check that but its to late and I'm off to bed.

>Bottom line: to my taste there is to much of confusion around.

Which is why I combined the directories :-)

I can't comment on if/how Mplayer or KMP use the codecs as I don't
use those programs. I believe the Wincodecs was collected to work with
WarpVision but may work with the others. I would expect there's a piece
of win32 code that is called to use them (hence the need for ODIN) which
is a shame that this couldn't be os/2 code to avoid the need for ODIN.

There is no gaurentee that WV will play all wmv files. - Did it play
any ?? If not, you're either very unlucky or you haven't got everything
installed. At one point warp vision had to be the registered version and
have warp overlay installed for it to be able to play DVDs but I think
these restrictions are gone now (and never affected wmv files as far as
I can remember). Installing Warp Overlay should improve performance once
you have the program working though.

Even if you do a re-install of play around with the configuration,
deleting video2.ini is a good way to reset to a base (should be working)
state.

Mot even if you select the specific VOB files ? - As I said don't use

WarpMedia but development on that stopped as WarpVideo took off.

Yes, I see.

Afaik win aps don't listen to the libpath= command, so I confess I've
some doubts about this. All the more as it works apparently without
system32 directory.

The firefox extension only takes care of assigning the required program
and displays a nice graphic while the data is being received. Streamed
video playback is only possible if whichever program you are using can
support playing while receiving.

By searching the site I can find a link to download the trial version
but not the community version. There's also references to PABX and VOIP,
is this (full) product more than just an e-mail engine ?

Can you post the actual URL of the application form for the community
edition please ?

Hi Guys,

AFAICT you just download
ftp://ftp dot communigate dot com/pub/CommuniGatePro/CGatePro-OS2-Intel.zip and
provided there are <=5 users, it will be in 'Community' mode.

I plan on setting this up today - will be nice to have reliable IMAP
support - Weasel IMAP hasn't been updated in a LOOOOOONG time :(

Fortunately, I only need 4 users so the Community edition should be OK
for me.

Cheers,

Paul.

say, I have vague recollection... last time I've tried installing

Hi Guys,

Sorry about the URL, I forgot [end of a long session] that when I went
to that page which didn't have any link to the community version - I
just went to its root-parent and navigated from there.

The community version is the current full Pro version with user-limits
of 5 maximum - exceed that and it becomes a trial version only!

Following were the actual sites I downloaded from - after filling in the
agreement form!

ftp://ftp dot communigate dot com/pub/CommuniGatePro/CGatePro-OS2-Intel.zip
ftp://ftp dot communigate dot com/pub/plugins/CGPSophos-OS2-Intel.zip (Sophos
AntiVirus plugin)

Mike

FWIW - I have this running on smedley.info now - including the use of
SpamAssassin using http://www.tffenterprises dot com/cgpsa

I used the included MoveIMAPMail.exe to suck all the mail off my
existing weasel imap server and on to communigate.

Must say I find the Communigate webadmin terribly confusing - but it's
nice to have rock solid imap support which weasel is sadly lacking.

Cheers,

Paul.

Hiya Paul,

When I get my systems all sorted out and filing system "rationalised",
that will be good for all the disparate volumes I have mail on -
everywhere - because when i'm working on fixups etc., I like to keep
connected on those too, so have many duplicates of my POP3 mail - will
be nice to aggregate it all!

Now if I only had something to automatically remove duplicate messages!

Regards,
Mike

I don't understand how the command <path>\ar5os2.exe <winapp> can start
a winapp. Wouldn't ar5os2.exe just start acrobat reader? How could a
winapp load in acrobat reader?

Hi Alan,

AR5OS2.exe is just a wrapper - just like PE.exe is!
If you don't give it a <win-app.exe> argument, it just runs the default
acrobat5 reader!

Don't even attempt to use it to e.g. install the full Acrobat
application [like the CD-delivered Acrobat 4.05 with distiller etc.] though!

The way Innotek wrote this program - this is the way it works !

You'd think acrobat reader would try to open the win32 executable as a
PDF file but it doesn't - it does try to execute it as a win32 program.

In fact to be able to run a program with Innowin, I believe you only
need two files - ar5os2.exe and ar32win.dll. Put those in the same
directory as the win32 exe you want to try to run and then either set up
an object or simply type the command as Ian gave it.

Cheers/2

Ed.

is this a working copy of sophos av, or, simply a plugin to allow a

oh, yes: what an antivirus used for, anyhow ?

Hi Voytek,

It was the only other OS/2 product on the site - so I figured it
wouldn't do any harm to have it.
I haven't even had time to unzip the packages yet! I think it must be
more than just a Plugin at 7MB

I thought you'd pick that up! :-D
I feel secure without any, like you -- but I know there are a lot of
people using OS/2 who haven't got a clue - like Norman Antivirus - that
wouldn't check format dot com because it was larger than 1 segment [64K]!!

FWIW, from the html file in the zip:

*Note:* The Sophos Anti-Virus Plugin is available only for /some/
platforms supported with the CommuniGate Pro server software. Before you
order the Sophos Plugin License, make sure that the available versions
of the Plugin software run on your CommuniGate Pro Server platform.

So from above I'd say it's the complete thing, without a licence!
