I believe it was also on the cover DVD of APC a few months back. Created
the individual CD-Rs - tried to install on my test system - wouldn't
work - failed with various errors - in effect saying don't try this is
on hardware older than about 3 years.

Cheers/2

I got the one from APC many months ago - also v10. My suggestion is
don't waste your time. It's like Linux 10 years ago. It might be
stable an' all that, but you need to be a full systems engineer to get
it installed.

Cheers
Kev

Hi Ed,

Will keep that in mind when I get around to trying it.
Should be OK with HP dx5150 though!

I didnt have any problems, and the installer is quite slick.
Pentium III 650 with 1G RAM and a 20G harddisk plus ATI card with 128M ram.
Newest hardware was the 20Gb HD and ATI card I bought about 3 years
ago. I'd put it on a par with Linux a year ago :-)

A lot easier than OS/2 would be for a beginner :-|

Hi Kev,

No problem - I have installed a full SUN system and network from
complete scratch a few times, whilst I was training with SUN at Griffith
Uni in Brisbane in 1994 - whilst doing the Advanced SA's Course!

Mike

This sounds like a real case of YMMV - my (quite similar) configuration,
was a PIII 500, 768MB RAM and 40GB harddisk - nothing fancy !

I tried about 5 time to install and it failed at different points each time.

*My* Opinion of what was supplied on the APC DVD (and this could be part
of the problem I guess), was it was a depressing waste of my time and
don't forget, I know tricky installs, having installed all OS/2 versions
from v1.1 onwards and all Windoze versions since Windows 286 !

So my vote on Solaris 10 is MINUS 10 !!

Cheers/2

Ed.

Hi Ed,

I am sure that the CDs distributed directly from SUN Microsystems are of
a much better quality than those mass-produced APC versions. I have
found that many times in the past with other media-distributed CDs.

Subject: openwengo

I've been looking for a while for a free VOIP (SIP standard) client that
will run under OS/2. I have tried several Windows versions under ODIN or
INNOWIN and while some install, not have ran so far.

I have just come across this site:

http://www.openwengo dot org/

Where they have a client that is supposed to be configurable for any
service provider. I have seen it written that it will even run off a USB
key - usefull if your travelling and want to call home cheaply from an
internet cafe.

I have tried this client with ODIN and INNOWIN also without success.

Very interestingly they also have a firefox plugin of the application,
but it reports that it cannot install in FF v 2.0, only up to v 1.5. I
suspect this xpi actually makes Windoze calls as well however.

There's also source code available on the site if anyone is willing to
compile to a new operating system, other than Windoze, Linux and MAC.

Cheers/2

Ed.
