To one and all

It seems that there are at least 2 versions of eCS v1.2 out there. May
I impose of as many of you as possible to check your MINSTALL. All you
need to do is get an eCS command line and enter MINSTALL. Will you
please let me know if that yields a graphical MINSTALL window or a text
one. Also, please state whether or not your eCS is from downloaded
..ISOs or from bought disks.

Thanx heaps in advance
Kev

ps Happy new year all (and the one) in case I forget closer to the day.

Hi all,

As of late I am unable to run Mozilla 1.7 and Staroffice 5.1a
simultaneously. If I run staroffice first, an error window will popup
about mozilla's path not found or a host of other possible errors ( you
know the popup I mean ). If I run Mozilla first, SO won't let me open
documents or create new documents. Anyone know why? Also I've set SO
to NOT use the internet. Could that be a reason? And finally, does
anyone suggest switching to the beta of open office/2 and how does it's
milage compare to SO 5.1?

Cheers

Hi Kev,

[attached privately is a GIF of what happened here on my eCS 1.2 GA {CD
version} booting from a JFS-drive]

I only installed from CD#1 - so far, so hadn't activated MINSTALL - the
UniAudio picked up my AOpen AW320 during installation and configured it
properly.

Running MINSTALL in a VIO window generated the following:

[E:\]minstall
MINSTALL - Multimedia Installer (CLI/CID) - by Kiewitz
Successfully executed GUI installer

[E:\]

which was overlaid with the GUI Installer - ending with "Please select
the NEXT button below to begin"

I gave OO a go and it seems fine, except that it's crippled. I can't
remember what's been done, but it very effectively stopped me from using
it any more. Score 1 to Innotek I guess.

Does SO require the GCC runtime?

The latest Mozilla uses Libc05.dll and all previous versions (eg
Lib04c.dll) removed, mixing then is disasterious.

Hi Gavin.

Happy New Year to you and all at OS2Genau.

A possible cause: As I'm not using SO at the moment, I can't tell you the
item, but if you have Association Editor and Deregistration Of
Association, you will see a long line of classes. There is a Star Office
HTML Class (or something like it) that is there. If you can deregister it,
Mozilla will behave until next time you start SO. No matter what, all your
association will probably change to Star Office, rather than Mozilla (i.e.
if you click on <http://www.smh dot com dot au>, Star Office rather than Mozilla
starts.). If that what happens, then you should do the above.

May not have any effect. Sometimes yes, somethimes no.

 Hi Kev,

Did you by any chance update from eCS 1.1 ?? It has an mInstall.exe that sites
under the "\Previous" directory, in fact in my case there are two, different sized
ones ! These appear to be graphical. The CLI based ones are in \ecs\install and
\mmos2 directories, these appear to be the same program.

Cheers/2

Ed.

Happy new year to all, from me as well.

  Hi Gavin,

I have heard of this problem before and if I rememeber correctly, it's related to
the sequence of the Libpath statement and/or the SET statements in config.sys. Again,
from memory, the solution was to run SO via a batch file with a Set startlibpath
statement (containing the directories required by SO) .

As for switching to Open Office Org, the product is past beta version and
available to purchase from Innotek via Mensys at http://www.mensys.nl. The present
version is 1.1.4 and I believe it is intended to port the later versions as they
become available.

I know OOO is free on other platforms, however let me draw you attention to all the
other products that Innotek port to OS/2 and allow free access to for non-commercial
usage - SUN JAVA 1.42, Flash, Mozilla java plugin and runtime library DLL, Acrobat
reader, Citrix client. So if nothing slse, buying OOO/2 from Innotek, we are putting
some money back into the company for development support.

I have used OOO's word processor, spreadsheet and presentation components and with
version 1.1.4 I have no problems (I'm not a heavy user however). I have no problems
interchanging these files between OOO and M$ Office and I also open update and save
files from Star Office/2 v 5.1.

Cheers/2

Ed.

Hi Ed, Gavin,
Star Office/2 V5.1A puts neither path information
[LIBPATH/PATH/DPATH/BOOKSHELF/HELP etc] or SET statements in eCS|OS/2
versions of config.sys

It does put a file sversion.ini in *:\os2
It *may* also put in *:\os2\os2.ini an application StarOffice, with Key
of 5.1, and key-value of *:\APPS\STAROFFICE, relating to initial media
installed from.

Also in os2.ini are SO Templates and registered classes and items in
PM_Workplace:IplLoad and possibly WPURLDEFAULTSETTINGS|DefaultBrowserExe

Otherwise it keeps a very tight tree which can be moved in entirety
anywhere else - check in sversion.ini after moving.

I have the early download GA from Mensys - my minstall in command mode only - no GUI.

Here is the output.

This query has stemmed from the attempt to install the MP3 codec that comes with MMIOPAK. My version
installs it correctly with a simple patch to the Master.dsk file (one of the MMIOPAK files). However it doesn't
work with what appears to be the promised GUI version of minstall for the later version of ecs 1.2.
