Subject: Epson C61 USB Printer under WinOS2

For those with this printer, I have just been able to figure out how to print under WinOS2 including with colour.

The C61 is a USB and parallel port printer, which works fine under OS/2-eCs using the IBM epson drivers.
However I was not sure it would work under Winos2.

I asked Epson for some advice re: printing with this model under Win3.1. They suggested using an older
epson driver. I have found that the win31 driver for the Epson stylus color 820 works with the Epson stylus
c61 - with b/w and color.

This is how iI got it to work. I downloaded the win31 driver for the epson stylus color 820 from their site and
installed it in winos2. I set the winos2 printer to print to lpt3. In os/2-eCs I setup another printer object using
the os/2 epson driver for lpt3 and redirected it to the usb printer object, that i had already installed.

Thats great news David,
You shouldn't have to create the extra printer object in eCS.

Go to the printer object created originally for the USB printer.

In ports, right click on lpt3 & select redirection.
Note, don't actually select lpt3 with the left mouse button, otherwise
you will configure your original printer for lpt3!

Now under redirection, select the USB port.

Now you should have a single printer object in eCS that works from lpt3
in Win-OS/2.

Let us know how you go with this.

what do I need to mount 'usb memory sticks':

USB memory card support from SoftChoice ?

what about the various other memory devices, like, SD or MMC cards;

if I install USB memeory vard support, will the little 'dongles' that
allow physical connection of sd or mmc cards to an USB connector work on
OS/2 ?

anyone using these ?

These are all "mass storage devices", make sure you get the latest USB support
(November 2003) from Software Choice.

I have a Dick Smith's 32MB memory disk (stick) that has a card reader built in. The
"stick" works fine, I haven't tried the reader yet.

The memory stick should be formatted with a FAT file system on it.
Then OS/2 will recognise it as a Mass Storage Device.

The following works for my camera

BASEDEV=USBOHCD.SYS Rem I have 4 USB ports so need this repeated three
times
BASEDEV=USBOHCD.SYS
BASEDEV=USBOHCD.SYS
BASEDEV=USBEHCD.SYS
BASEDEV=USBD.SYS /REQ:USBUHCD$,USBOHCD$,USBEHCD$
BASEDEV=USBHID.SYS

BASEDEV=USBMSD.ADD /V rem the /v gives a message that it is loaded
and functioning

rem usbmountd This is good for LVM it detects connection to the port
and nudges LVM to put an icon for it in the drives folder
DEVICE=D:\USB\usbmountd\usbresmg.sys

rem I don't have a USB mouse But this allows me to use my WACOM USB
digitiser as a mouse
DEVICE=c:\os2\boot\USBMOUSE.SYS

Dennis.

I tried the sugested ftp site using the supplied login ID and password.
They didn't work

Just a thought on the penis enlargement span

If I had a pills which would give a three inch enlargement I would
market them by giving enough pills for one inch to every prospective
customer for free.
When the customer got his one inch enlargment I could charge like a
wounded bull for the next two inches.

So my conclusion is it don't work

 One reason I bought the ($29) DSE combined memory key and SD/MMC card reader was so
that if I couldn't connect my digital camera to my system and get data (which I
thought might be the case), I could always take the card out and put it in this
reader. As it turned out, I plugged my Camera (an Emprex 2200V) straight onto the USB
port and I was able to access it as a mass storage device straight away, so I never
needed to test it, but I'll try it now and let you know what I find.

Regards,

Ed.

Hi Dennis,

Are you using a Java Proxy program on your computer.?
Or does AlphaLink run a Proxy.?
If so there is a provision on the "Download Status" panel
in eCSMT, to put your proxy details.

Other answers below.

Do you mean you tried to Logon with your browser at
http://www.ecomstation dot com with your supplied NAME and Password that
came with eCS 1.1.? (Not FTP.?)

Or do you mean you can't download anything THROUGH eCSMT.?

The above sounds like you are referring to a web browser access to
www.ecomstation dot com.

I don't know either, then again, if I did it would not be a secret. :-)
I am sending you an email direct off list.

 Well, it's a black mark against the DSE USB ProDrive - the memory key works fine but
all that happens when I plug my SD memory card into it, is that the light changes from
green to red on the device. The USB memory keys contents are still accessible however
the SD card is not.

Thanks - but my current setup works fine anyway. But you are right I didn't have to setup the extra object.

Of note other win31 epson drivers that i tried eg stylus color2 or even the stylus 880 didn't work - the print
manger app would say the printer is out of paper. Luckily the 820 worked.

Subject:   Advice re Boot Managers

I have recently been dabbling with Linux again - especially since I had to replace my 20G drive with an 80G
drive - the 20G suddenly failed - it was only 2 yrs old what a bugger!! I also run WinXP and eCs (I use eCs
about 90% of the time).

I have been looking around for a decent boot manager. I tried grub which was installed from the Linux fedora
distro, but when i dabbled with LVM in eCs it stuffed it up.

I am now trying Airboot. It is fine and allows me to boot all os's.

Does anyone use a different one or can recommend one to try?

David

PS I have used system commander 3.0 and 4.0 but they dont recognise my large drive properly now. IBM
Boot manager is boring.

Did everyone notice the news about the software to enable you to record MPEG using the Hauppage PVR
card?

Sounds very encouraging. However I checked to see how much the card was - it is around $480 to $500 in
Australia. In the US it is $199 - with the exchange rate the way it is now that equates to $260AUD - what a
mark-up!!

It is a pity it will only work with that card. The card does do hardware mpeg recording however.
