"Market" for old macs?

Not at all.

Just because someone makes a product designed to do something does not
mean that that product is necessary to do that thing.  Furthermore,
even if it is necessary in some cases does not mean it's necessary in
all; for example, it may be that "modern" floppy drives are capable of
things that drives current when the gadget was produced aren't.
