That is by far the best method and also excellent for board you really
don't want to cook (as in ones you fix). 

I've used that trick on PCs I wanted that had bad DALLAS DS1287 
clock/cmos chips.  Its easier then to sand off the epoxy to 
access the dead battery for replacement.
