Jsut becasue something is popular doesn't mean it's well understood. I'll 
bet most people who use Winzip or whatever haven't a clue as to what a 
zip file actually consists of.

But I'll bet now that more people understand the internals of linux than 
understand the internals of Windows, because the former is 'open' and 
documented, the latter isn't. Even though there are many more Windows 
machines than linux machines :-(
