In my experience dead ones are scrap :-)
For a UK supplier try ARD electronics http://www.ardelectronics.com
12V 7.2AH at 10.66 GBP plus p&p and the dreaded VAT.
ARD are a good firm to deal with, if I phone an order before 4.30pm
and it's in stock, it usually arrives at about 9 am next day!
I have no connection with them other than being a long-time customer...
