I already have my extensive network of underground tunnels controlled
by VAXen :-).

Any external cabling outside the metal box (or even running between
metal boxes inside a metal box) will pick up huge spikes from an EMP.
Compactness and self-containedness (attributes of some but not all
mini's and mainframes) goes a long way in reducing susceptibility.
