IIRC, the major IEEE magazines adopted a standard
of "disk" for magnetic media, "disc" for optical media
...IIRC, about 5 years ago I asked one of their senior
editors about magneto-optical :)   
He said "disc", because for them the optical overrides 
the magnetic part.
