Can it be used in "pure" X-Y?  Even if it cannot, making an analog
computer that integrates the Lorenz equations and allowing some knobs
to vary the parameters produces really pretty displays.

Takes a couple of analog multipliers.  See my usenet posts on the
subject from early this year.
