Hi
 Some types of foam don't last long. I wonder if one
could make some with closed cell foam instead. It
last much longer but is a little stiffer than the
foam that they seem to be using.
 If it is a capacitive you should be able to make
new capacitors with some aluminum foil and clear
tape.
 Just my thoughts
