Ah, but the 2.8" disks were the recently-discussed "Quick Disk" drives, 
that read about 128k off one big spiral track.

They showed up in musical equipment quite a lot - old Akai samplers 
(S612, S700), Korg SQD sequencer and the Roland S10 sampler spring to mind.
