How early?  I've got a Grid 1040, which is definitely pre-Tandy.  Has a NEC
V30 in it, which gives better battery life than the original 8086.  20MB
Prarietech 2.5" HD loaded with Grid's variant of MS-DOS.  Not a bad little
box.
