OT: "Best" Linux Distro?

Well, my first thought is "Why did you just ask for a *nux advocacy flamewar?"

My second thought is that you didn't provide enough information on what you are 
doing with your Windows desktop that you want to keep doing under Linux.  I 
can't properly recommend a particular distribution until I know what it is you 
do with your existing OS setup.  You also didn't mention what your existing 
*nix competency level was at.  Provide information on those last two holes and 
I'd be more than happy to give you some recommendations.
