HELP Upgraded Help Facility for RT-11 including Help for TSX-plus Australian RT-11 Sig Tape 1988 This contribution contains a superset of the Digital-provided RT-11 help texts. It was considered after advice to be suitable for inclusion in the DECUS Sig Tape &/or Library, but it must contain the Digital copy- right notice: Copyright (c) 1986 by Digital Equipment Corporation, Maynard, Mass. CHAPTER 1 Distribution HELP is provided as the following: HELP.RNO Documentation HELP.DOC Ibid HELP.SRC Compacted source file for HELP COMPRS.SAV Compressing/decompressing utility HELP.GEN Command file to generate HELP.MLB from HELP.SRC HELP.CMP Command file for compressing HELP from the macro sources BRUCE.EXT Extra help texts from Bruce McLenihan's version of HELP. POWELL.EXT Extra help texts from Powell Heuer's version of HELP. HELP.DIS Distribution command file for HELP. CHAPTER 2 Background HELP was worked upon by two independent programmers: Bruce McLenihan, of SEQEB in Brisbane, and Powell Heuer, of CSIRO in Sydney. They pro- vided their efforts for the 1988 Australian DECUS SIG tape, and the elision was performed by Chester Wilson. Please feel free to send ideas and corrections to: Chester Wilson, 71 Galatea St, Charleville 4470, Australia. This HELP text is for RT-11 and TSX-plus; it does not have SHARE included within it. CHAPTER 3 Generation To generate HELP, you will need a disc area available with about 1200 spare blocks. Copy the distribution across to it, assign it to be DK:, and type .$@HELP.GEN (the "$" is necessary if you have KMON set IND, as HELP.GEN will not run under IND). This command file first generates the macro sources from HELP.SRC, then uses LIBR to combine them into a library file HELP.MLB. If you run a version of HELP combined with its library, follow the instructions in the RT-11 documentation to attach the new version. If you run with a separate HELP.MLB, merely copy the new version across to your SY:. CHAPTER 4 Additions & Deletions With apologies to the initial authors of these HELP texts, items which appeared too system specific for general distribution were removed and placed into .EXT files. These are provided to keep everything together in the hope that this distribution may still be of value to these hard working lads! These .EXT files are files which have been concatenated by COMPRS, and require decompression before using. Each of them provides both the additional HELP sources and a suitable command file for producing the particular flavour of HELP.MLB. People who wish to roll their own may find some help in looking at these files. For example, to produce Powell Heuer's version of HELP: .r comprs COMPRS V1: Compress or Expand? (C or E): e Input file: powell.ext Onto device: dk: COMPRS V1: Compress or Expand? (C or E): x This has produced the additional sources and POWELL.GEN. Use this: .@powell.gen .! POWELL.GEN - Create HELP with Powell Heuer's flavour . .! This command file assumes that POWELL.EXT has been de-compressed .! by COMPRS.SAV to produce the relevant extra HELP sources. At this stage POWELL.GEN will decompress HELP.SRC then combine the modules as per HELP.GEN. To produce Bruce McLenihan's HELP, substitute "BRUCE" for "POWELL" in the above example. CHAPTER 5 Intentions This HELP submission is to be released via the Australian DECUS SIG tape 1988. When the author stops receiving bug reports and hate mail for an adequate period to tidy up the worst of the sins of omission and commis- sion, it will be submitted at a DECUS submission. - o O o -
