RID is a multi-function file processing program whose main purpose in life is to compress files brought over to the PDP 11/34 from an IBM or CDC mainframe. Files can be compressed by deleting sequence numbers, deleting trailing blanks and tabs, and by converting blanks to tabs wherever possible. Other options are: converting all tabs to blanks, copying files into a new file with CARRIAGECONTROL='LIST' attribute, and listing files on the user's terminal. A help option is built into the program. RID is written in RATFOR. Unfortunately, I have been unable to bring it up with the latest version 22 preprocessor. The RATFOR preprocessed Fortran code for RID is also on the tape, in case anyone does not have an older RATFOR preprocessor. No special switches or options are required to compile or taskbuild RID, though I would recommend the /NOTR switch at compile-time and LB:[1,1]SYSLIB/LB:$SHORT added to the TKB command line for minimum task size.
