Power Supply Unit #n: Abnormal environmental condition occurred

This entry appears in the alarm log when one of the HP NetServer system redundant power supply modules (indicated by n) is in a protection condition (ALERT). It means that the power supply module is not operating properly, but there is no power supply module hardware failure.

This event may indicate one of the following conditions:

Inspect the server to find and remove the abnormal condition. Then reset the power supply by turning the system off and unplugging the power receptacle. Wait approximately 5 seconds and reconnect the power cord to the power receptacle. Then turn the system back on.

Power Supply Unit #n: AC power source failure

Indicates a failure with the AC power source that is connected to one of the redundant power supply units (indicated by n).

In an HP NetServer LH, this event may indicate one of the following conditions:

Inspect the server to find and remove the abnormal condition.

In an HP NetServer LX, this event indicates a defective power supply module. Replace the bad module.

Power Supply Unit #n: Protection temperature exceeded, DC outputs shutdown

Indicates that one of the redundant power supply modules in the HP NetServer (indicated by n) is in over temperature protection mode. The power supply module is protected against the over temperature conditions caused by one of the following conditions:

The power supply module turns off the DC outputs, but the power supply module itself does not shutdown. Inspect the server to find and remove the abnormal condition. Pull out the power supply module, let cool down for 1 minute, then reinsert into system.

Power Supply Unit #n: Protection temperature normal, power restored

Indicates that one of the redundant power supply modules in the HP NetServer (indicated by n) has recovered from an over temperature protection mode. When the temperature drops to the normal operating level, the power supply module restores the power automatically.

Power Supply Unit #n: Power supply unit failure detected

Indicates that one of the redundant power supply modules (indicated by n) is not in normal operating condition (FAULT). The following are possible causes for this error:

Replace the failing power supply module to correct the problem.

If the system generating this event message is a NetServer LXr 8000, check to see if the LED indicator light on the power supply module (as seen from the rear of the system) is solid yellow. If it is solid yellow, replace the power supply module. If it blinks yellow, remove and reseat the power supply module. If the failure occurs again, replace the power supply module.

Power Supply Unit #n: Removed

Indicates that one of the redundant power supply modules (indicated by n) is not connected properly or has been physically removed from the system. If the remaining power supplies are sufficient to operate the system, this is not a problem. If not, the system will be inoperative until the minimum number of operational power supplies are installed. Check for proper connection; fix or replace as necessary.

Power Supply Unit #n: Inserted

Indicates that one of the redundant power supply modules (indicated by n) has been physically inserted into the system. No action need be taken, this message is informational.

Power Supply Unit Removed or Inserted

Indicates that one of the redundant power supply modules (indicated by n) has either been removed or inserted into the system. If a Power Supply Unit is inserted, this message is simply informational. If a Power Supply Unit is removed, this could mean that the Power Supply Unit is not connected properly or has been physically removed from the HP NetServer power supply subsystem. If the remaining power supplies are sufficient to operate the system, this is not a problem. If not, the system will be inoperative until the minimum number of operational power supplies are installed. Check for proper connection; fix or replace as necessary.

Power Supply Subsystem: Warning temperature exceeded

Indicates that one of the redundant power supply modules in the HP NetServer (indicated by n) has exceeded the warning temperature level. The warning level is 45 degrees C. Over temperature conditions are typically caused by one of the following conditions:

Inspect the server to find and remove the abnormal condition.

Power Supply Subsystem: Emergency temperature exceeded

Indicates that one or more of the redundant power supply modules in the HP NetServer has exceeded the emergency temperature level. The emergency level is 49 degrees C. To avoid permanent damage to your server power supply subsystem hardware, go and turn off the server immediately. Over temperature conditions are typically caused by one of the following conditions:

Inspect the server to find and remove the abnormal condition. Then reset the power supply by turning the system off and on.

Power Supply Unit #n: Power Source Failure

This alert indicates a failure with the power source that is connected to one of the redundant power supply modules (indicated by n).

This event that generated this alert may indicate one of the following conditions depending upon the sensor number displayed:

Sensor Number Description
00 Power Supply Unit failed
08Power Supply Unit #1 failed
09Power Supply Unit #2 failed
10Power Supply Unit #3 failed
24AC power cord has been unplugged
25DC power supply has failed

Inspect the server to find and remove the abnormal condition.

Power Supply Unit Redundancy Gained

This alert indicates that the NetServer Power Supply Subsystem has more power supply modules in the system than the minimum required for normal operation. For NetServer LH 3 systems the minimum number of power supply modules required for normal operation is 2.

Receiving this alert means that an additional power supply module has been added to the server and this power supply module will be used for reduncancy (it will take over in case of a failed power supply module). This alert is informational. No action is required.

Power Supply Unit Redundancy Lost

This alert indicates that the NetServer Power Supply Subsystem now has only the minimum number of working power supply units required to maintain normal operation. There is no redundant (backup) power supply unit if one fails. For NetServer LH 3 systems, the minimum number of power supply units required to maintain normal operation is 2.

Receiving this alert means that if one of the remaining working power supply modules in the server fails, there is no redundant power supply module available in the server to take over. Since your server still has the minimum number of operational power supply modules, no immediate action is required. However, you should inspect the server for any bad power supply modules and replace them as soon as possible.

Power Supply Subsystem: Not Enough Power Supply Units Detected

Receipt of this alert does not mean that the server is currently down. It indicates that the NetServer recently went down because it had fewer than the minimum number of power supply modules required for normal operation. The event that triggered this alert (stored in the System Event Log when detected) could not be generated until the server came back online.

If you receive this alert it means that more than the minimum number of power supply modules required for normal operation of the server were removed. For NetServer LH 3 systems, the minimum number of power supply modules required to maintain normal operation is 2. Though the server is now back online, it would be a good idea to ensure that the server has redundant power supply modules that will act as a backup in the future.

Predictive Failure/Alert in Power Supply

The Power Supply Unit (PSU), identified in the message by its unit #, is currently functioning properly, but it is no longer operating within acceptable margins. The Power Supply Unit's cooling fan is not running at normal speed and is about to fail.

If you receive this message, contact your support provider to determine if a predictive repair should be made. When you call, please refer to "Product Support Plan 9377."

Power Supply Subsystem Soft Failure

This alert indicates that the front panel power button has failed to turn on the server's power supply subsystem. Try disconnecting the server from A/C power for 30 seconds, plugging it back in and trying the power button again. If the problem persists, there may be a problem with the Backplane Board or the Control Panel of the server.

Normal ACPI Shutdown

This message indicates that the server (which supports the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) has been powered down at the request of the operating system. This message is informational. No action need be taken.

ACPI Hardware Failure

This alert indicates that the server power management hardware has malfunctioned during a power up/down event. Reset the power management hardware by shutting down the server and removing the AC power for 30 seconds. If the problem persists, the System board may need to be replaced.
