To use the card reader, login on the teletype
in the line printer room (if convenient), and then type:
& use cr<esc> (commands) cards.dat<nl>

The computer will either respond:
"device cr is owned by jones"
in which case you must try again later,
or it will say:
"place your cards in hopper
hit <nl> when ready"

in which case you do exactly that --
place your cards in the hopper, turn the card
reader on and push reset to get the green light,
and return to your terminal and type <nl> (i.e.
newline or carriage-return).

The computer will then respond "reading..."

at which point you should go and watch your cards
be read in. If the card reader stops before it
has finished reading all of your cards, do one of the following:

if the "pick check" light is on, simply restart by
pushing the reset button. Otherwise, go back to your
terminal and see if there was a message:

If it says "reread last card", then go to the reader, take
the card just read and put it back in the hopper under the
rest of the deck, and push reset.

If it says "r(reread), c(continue), or <nl>(end-of-file)?"
then type r if there was a "read check" and reread last card(as above),
type c if no "read check" but still were cards to go,
else type <nl> (i.e. newline)
