The Online Manual ToolBook is an Add-a-ToolKit (tm) to the Carousel
Use-a-ToolKit (tm).

The diskettes contain files that allow you to read descriptions of Tools at
your terminal. These include archive files DOC1.AR and DOC2.AR that contain
the formatted output for all the Tool descriptions, and programs to extract
the individual descriptions. The Tool descriptions have been formatted for a
CRT with eighty columns. They appear slightly different from the printed
manual but contain exactly the same text.

The following files are on these diskettes:

   README
      is this file.

   MAN.COM
is the loader for the MAN Tool.

   CMTBOX12.EXE
is the MAN Tool described in the accompanying printed manual page. It
looks for the Tool descriptions in files named toolname.DOC in the
      current directory.

   MAN1.BAT
is a batch file to extract toolname.DOC files from a single unified
archive file called DOC.AR and to display them at the terminal. It is
useful if you leave the descriptions in archive format.

   MAN2.BAT
is a batch file that just uses the CRT Tool to display a toolname.DOC
file at the terminal. It is an alternative to MAN.COM and
      CMTBOX12.EXE.

   DOC1.AR and DOC2.AR
are the archive files with the Tool descriptions in members named
toolname.DOC and a list of all the .DOC files in a member named LIST.

   COMBINE.BAT
is a batch file to combine DOC1.AR and DOC2.AR into DOC.AR.

   XTRACMAN.BAT
is a batch file to extract the individual descriptions from DOC1.AR and
      DOC2.AR for use by MAN.COM or MAN2.BAT.

   MAN.AR
is an archive file containing the Ratfor source for the MAN Tool. You
can change the MAN_DIRECTORY definition to name the directory containing
the toolname.DOC files if you have the Carousel Builder ToolBook (tm).

                                  INSTALLATION

1) Make a backup copy of the diskettes.

2) If you have not already done so, install your Use-a-ToolKit according to
the instructions in the manual and any instructions packed with the
   diskettes.

3) Decide whether to keep the descriptions in archive format or in individual
files. An archive containing all the descriptions takes at least 190Kb of
disk space. The sixty-five .DOC files take perhaps 250Kb, but they are
   quicker to read.

4) Choose a directory in which to keep the descriptions. Copy DOC1.AR and
   DOC2.AR to that directory.

   a) If you want individual files, set the current directory to be that
directory and then run XTRACMAN.BAT to extract all the .DOC files.

   b) If you instead want to keep the descriptions together in a single
archive, run COMBINE.BAT to build DOC.AR.

In either case, you may delete DOC1.AR and DOC2.AR if this step completes
   successfully.

5) Install the Tool or batch file you will use to display the descriptions.

   a) If you choose a batch file, modify it to refer to the directory
containing the descriptions. Rename it (for example, to MANUAL.BAT).
Copy it to one of the directories specified in the PATH environment
      entry.

   b) If you choose the MAN Tool, copy MAN.COM to one of the directories
specified in PATH. (If you have the Builder ToolBook, redefine the
MAN_DIRECTORY symbol in MAN.AR and rebuild CMTBOX12.EXE.) Copy
CMTBOX12.EXE to one of the directories specified in the TOOLPATH
      environment entry.
