Hi John,

>The User ID was not added as a message name

Because it's already in use :-)

If you dont use the messenger facility, you can comment
out the line :-

  messenger = services\msrvinit.exe

in x:\ibmlan\ibmlan.ini
It will be towards the bottom of ibmlan.ini

Cheers

Sounds to me like you have a user name and a machine name that is the
same or you are already logged on with that user name in the domain or
workgroup.

As you can send message (text) to either a user name or a machine name
using the same command - the destination has to be unique. So if there
is someone already logged on as "Fred" if you try to log on another
machine as "Fred" you'll get this warning - it's saying that when a
message is sent to "Fred" you wont get it. Also if a computer is called
"Fred" it will give you the same issues.

How to stop the problem - if you don't use network messaging, turn the
feaure off on all systems.

Aha!!

Thanks Ian and Ed for lucid explanations.

Since the Help files don't, it probably means that your knowledge has been
gained in the harsh school of hard knocks!
