Subject: Fat 32

Hi,

I have an external HD on which I have a Fat 32 and a HPFS partition. I
want to read files transfered from WinXP to the Fat 32 partition when I
use eCs. However eCs only sees the HPFS partition. I have installed
Fat32_0913.wpi from Hobbes but still can't see the Fat 32 partition.
What can I do?

Regards,

Alan Duval

No! I have the OS2DASD.DMD driver in my config.sys

Should I REM this and install DANIDASD.DMD ?

If so, are there any other things I should do so that eCS 2.0 will see
all the partitions on my HD as well as those on my USB plugged external
drive?

Alan

Swat I did, coupla weeks ago, shows how far I am from the cutting edge!
 - covered in the documentation.

BTW I found the presence of the FAT32 stuff to be not entirely benign.
OK for disk ops like copy move stuff.
On my system e.g. installs showed up some "funnies".
Going to set up a boot option for particular use - YMMV,

I just read the doc with DaniDASD.DMD and she says that it doesn't work
with OS2LVM.DMD which I have in the BASEDEV section of my config.sys,
as eCS 2.0 was installed to my HD which was formatted with a number of
partitions by LVM. Hence I don't think it would be advisable for me to
install it.

Alan

Read the FAT32 documents carefully. The secret is to get the drive set
up with a LVM master boot record and partitions (volumes). You can then
proceed to get the FAT32 and HPFS volumes formatted. I format both with
DFSee, although I have used eCS to format the HPFS and WinXP to format
the FAT32. The key is to have the LVM info set up properly.

Is there anyway to read docs in a WarpIn package without installing it????

I'd be inclined to check out the fat32 driver by trying to read a fat32
formatted memory card.

If you can read the card then the driver is ok and you need to look at
the hdd area.

If you can't read the memory card, then the fat32 driver is the problem.

Regards

Dennis.

HI,

Thanks Peter, Chuck and Kris for your help. I used LVM to give a volume
name to the FAT 32 partition and now eCS recognizes it and I can copy
files from it.

Indeed and other than that you can't use danidasd.dmd at all, you can't
even think of it.
