Hi Wayne,

Thanks for this - yes it could indeed be the APN - I set that directly
on the LG U8330 before it would work as a modem.

By the way for everyone - here a list of most Australian 3G telco's APNs
- thanks to the supplied by Telstra client software:

Telstra Next-G - telstra.internet
"3" 3G - 3netaccess
Optus 3G - internet
Vodaphone 3G - vfinternet.au

at the moment I'm having difficulties getting ANY response using ZOC,
I've downloaded a couple of alternative terminal programs to try them -
TE2 you exits when I start it, ZIP totally hangs the system - even c-a-d
doesn't work - it's a power off job ! and now I have Intercom (from
Adeptsoft) which appears to run but I'm still not getting a response.

I'll try again with Injoy and put the AT+CGDCONT? string as a modem
initialisation string with trace turned on and see what I get as a
response (if any).

Cheers/2

Ed.

I forgot to ask b4, on the A411, how have you been setting the APN? There
is no way to set it on the A501.

I am currently writing full instructions that I will send shortly.

I haven't been setting the APN - hence the reason it displays as a space
in the response to the inquiry above, and hence the reason I was asking
how it can be set through an AT command - if I can't find anything on
the web, I'll dissect the Windoze driver (inf file) as I expect it must
be doing this setting to be able to communicate (and this works from
windoze of course).

Once a CID has been set, it stays in the modem permanently.
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP"."telstra.internet",,0,0 (case sensitive). This can be
entered via a terminal prog or added to the init string in Injoy.

Injoy settings:-
Host setup page:- leave userID & password blank. Protocol:- PPP.
PPP setup page:- Your IP address:- blank, Dest IP address:- 2.0.0.0
                                     Netmask:- 0.0.0.0, Nameserver address:- 0.0.0.0
Backup nameserver:- 0.0.0.0, Domain name:- blank
Communication Setup page:- Port speed:- 115200, Phone number:- *99***1#
PPP options page:- Allow PAP Authentication:- ON
                                        Allow CHAP Authentication:- ON
                                       all others OFF

Save it.

Once connected, record the primary & secondary DNS, You may need it
later. Further explanations later, I should have done a full writeup previously
but I am sure you are keen to get testing.

Cheers
Wayne

Ok, tried just the setting of the APN to start with - corrected to dot
to a comma and then ran again and got:

11:51:12 RX: IPCP PACKET INCLUDING IPCP-HEADER
 11:51:12 RX: CONFIG_ACK
 11:51:12 *** IPCP LAYER OPENED SUCCESSFULLY ***
11:51:12 0.0.0.0 not allowed as IP address - Disconnect

I'm guessing that's why you put 2.0.0.0 as destination IP address -
normally 0.0.0.0 indicates supply by host but it seems not in this case
- one more try ....

Yes! SUCCESS - Working !! I don't have exactly the same settings as
you in some of the comm setup (I have 38.4K) and the phone number I use
(from the Windoze client) has another #1 in it, but similar enough.

OK, so now we need to get your Sony phone working !!

Cheers/2

Ed.

Any number seems to work as long as it is NOT 0.0.0.0

Max port speed on A501 is 230400. If I set injoy higher, it works but seems to
slow downloads. Download speeds are not restricted to what is set here.
To see what range A411 has, enter AT+IPR=?. I still have not found a
Samsung AT command reference on the net.

Did you record DNS addresses?
Did you test downloading something?

As soon as we are sure yours is up fully.

I disconnected the ethernet connection from the system and added in the
speed request
response to AT+IPR=?
was
+IPR: (),(300,600,1200,2400,4800,9600,19200,38400,57600,115200,230400)
So it looks as if 230400 is the maximum on the Samsung A411 as well.

DNS addresses shown were 10.11.12.13 and 10.11.12.14 and an allocated IP
address of 10.236.212.157

I was unable to connect to any websites so, as I think you were
expecting, the DNS setup is most likely not so good - I will find and
code in the standard Telstra DNS addresses and see how they go.

OK I tried using the Telstra ADSL DNS addresses - no difference, then I
went through and rechecked all parameters, no difference, tried some
possible changes - still no difference.

What is interesting is that I can ping one IP address down from my
allocated address so I guess that's someone else on the Next_G network -
so I am connected to their network - but it looks to me as if the
default route once one has entered the Next-G network is incorrect as I
can't ping the Telstra ADSL DNS servers (using their IP addresses) and I
would have expected to be able to do so.

Why do you set the destination IP address to 2.0.0.0 ?

 Cheers/2

Yes, you are connected to their INTRAnet, your ip address (as seen by
others) is not tthe same as what injoy reports. There are sites you can
access free that will look at that number & tell you what the external number
is.

So you can set the port speed to 230400.

I was hoping that Telstra had fixed this bug so I wasn't going to say anything
but here goes. For weeks it was hit & miss if I could do anything after
connecting. Eventually I saw the differences in DNS numbers so I recorded
the good numbers & put them into injoy settings. After that it never let me
down. Here are the numbers I use. 203.50.2.71 & 139.130.4.4

Cheers

Having looked at the (operational) WinXP config, I found that what Injoy
thought were DNS servers are in fact the WINS servers and I now have the
correct DNS addresses installed.

That "destination IP" address is taken as the default gateway and having
2.0.0.0 (it doesn't get changed) when connected into a 10.x.x.x network
doesn't seem logical to me. Injoy states that that field should be set
to 0.0.0.0 to pick up the allocated address from the Host - which seems
reasonable, however then when connecting, it complains that that field
is set to 0.0.0.0 which is an invalid IP address - rather strange - I
don't have this issue when connecting to the "3" network via the LG
phone, so something is different in the Telstra Next-G network setup.

On the winXP config the default gateway gets set to the same IP address
as is allocated to the PC and the submet mask range is one IP address -
i.e. 255.255.255.255.

IFConfig PPP0 displays the allocated IP address OK, so I am indeed
connected to the Next-G Intranet. I wonder if the Windows client sets a
proxy or socks address somewhere ? But then your configuration with your
phone wouldn't work either.

any chance of send me screenshots of your Injoy config including the
popup screen that comes when you are connected, off-list please ?

Cheers/2

Ed.
