Hi All.

This is my very first mail out on my new TVM motherboard. I have had no
time to configure everything yet.

First impressions are really good. As our assemblers at Austin STILL left
Windows on there, I just deleted it, then installed. I did get a strange
Disk Space Total (about 65GiB) when installing eCs 1.2, but on a later
version... eCs2.0b2m3a...the correct size of 153MiB came up (A Samsung
160MiB HDD).

Installation was fine in both cases....everything worked, and it can see
the DWL-G520 no problems.

I've been sent to bed, so more tomorrow. Thanks again, Ed.

Regards

NICK

One thing about the ASUS M2V-TVM (note the ASUS M2V-TVM is a different
board to the M2V-TVM) is that it is a Mucro-ATX board and only has two
PCI slots. It has however also a PCI-e X16 (for the video card) and a
PCI-e X1 - which apparently can support Network or SCSI adapter cards,
if you can find these in X1 format.

There's plenty of USB 2.0 sockets though (up to eight), so if your
scanner has USB and it's supported by SANE/2 as a USB scanner, that
could be an option, otherwise you'll need to use one of the PCI slots to
put in an OS/2 compatible SCSI card with the appropraiate connector for
your SCSI cable to your scanner.

Cheers/2

Ed,

I have lost your mailing of yesterday.
My quote from IStore was mo board $79, cpu $259 Box $80 and
ram 1gb $139. My problem is an old ISA scsi card (adaptec 15XX
.....cant remember). I hope I can get something in pci.
  In a rush....

The Adaptec 15xx series was the cut down - one external device only ISA
card. You should look for a PCI 29xx series with the same type of
interface - (not LVD I think). Probably check e-Bay as these are old cards.

AFAIR, 1520 had no boot support, 1540 was bootable

and, 7 devices, internal or external

I don't recall it 15xx being cut down in any way

ofcourse, I could be wrong...

Hi Voytek - so what is needed is a Fast SCSI (10Mb/s) PCI adaptec card -
he doesn't need Bios boot as this is only to attach an external scanner.

Perhaps this 2906 is the equivalent in PCI:

http://www.adaptec dot com/en-US/products/scsi_cards/entry/AVA-2906/

Need to check if it has OS/2 drivers of course - and check the connector
is correct for the existing cable.

Cheers/2

2940 U/UW all work with OS/2 ( I use them), presumedly, all 29xx would do....?

with 2940xx something I'm running **all** three busses:

internal narrow (CD), internal wide(HD), external(scanner)
(which was not possible with earlier controllers)

Hi Guys,

And there are plenty of 2940U/UW models on eBay currently - or at least
there were a day or so back, if Mike doesn't need it immediately.

Well... thank you everyone. I am just back from
Melbourne and all this mail...

The Adaptec card I have is an AVA-1505. I
bought it in 1996 to drive my Impos/2 compatible (Microtek E2)
scanner. The only driver that would work it was AIC 6360 v2.1 of
960709. IBM changed it later that year and I have always had
to preserve a copy of this driver for transfer to upgrades. So it is
a sensitivity with me :-). In summary:

Me:
My problem is an old ISA scsi card (adaptec 15XX

Peter Allen:
Mike,
Have an AHA-2940AU available for cost of p&p - 50 pin Honda (medium
density) external - details Adaptec site - says it's still current!
Ian Manners has later drivers than Adaptec site - you may have them with ECS
- at FP15 here.

From all of the excellent info I'll take up Peter's offer and give the 2940
a go. If it doesn't work I can always keep the old box just for the scanner
which I am frequently using.

Peter, I see you have a netspace address as I did when I lived in Melbourne.
I'll write you off-forum to bed down the details.

os2genau never ceases to surprise me...

Thanks,

Mike

I think 2940U or UW are ultrawide connection ? - Michael needs a card
with a Fast-SCSI 10Mb/s interface - I suspect a DB25 connector ?

It may be that he will have to buy a suitable cable and they can cost
more than the card ! I guess it'd be good to know what the Scanner is ?

Hi Mike,

I had the same problem when I upgraded a year ago and got an Adaptec
AVA-2906 card. My HP 4P Scanner works OK with the AIC7870.ADD and using
TAME.

Regards,

Alan Duval
