And now we are too.
There is a fair amount of winprinters in the collection, so this is an
answer to the previous unanswered question. :-)

I'm particularly interested in getting my Brother MFC620CN working - It
has Linux CUPS and LPD driver files on the Brother website, not only for
printing, but also for faxing - it also has SANE drivers for scanning,

I suspect we have a greater chance of success with a port of CUPS that
with WIN32PRN. I did some testing for the WIN32PRN project and it's a
very complex (and hence "fragile" - i.e. one small change and it wont
work) solution.

If you recall - we looked at the SANE driver for scanning and it relies
on closed source libraries - I wonder about the cups driver? This is
network connected?

Paul.

I'm not so worried about the SANE driver as I can "scan to card" and
then transfer either via FTP or USB MSD to the PC.

The Brother site says the CUPS drivers are for USB or Network connected.

So it looks like the CUPS thing will be a major breakthrough. The
WIN32PRN project isn't (wasn't ?) a Netlabs project, is it?

Hi Kris,

win32prn was being done by Vitali ??? in Ukraine. IIRC the source was
purchased by Mensys with the aim of finishing the project.

Everyone needs to be careful about getting too excited about CUPS. Yes
it will/should be a 'major breakthrough' however there is still a
bunch of work to be done on it to get it working 100%.

My time is pretty limited right now - but I'd hope to have something
within the next two months. I'm on vacation for a month starting
December 19th - in the meantime I'll do what I can in the
evening/weekend.

Cheers,

Paul.

I think what you say is correct - I can't remember if any organisation
like Netlabs was/is backing Win32Prn or not.
I hope this is a major breakthrough.

Hi

Those of you who visited my "computer room" during a MelbPC OS/2 Users
Group outing many years ago, might remember it looking something like this :-

<http://www.os2site.com/photo/ComputerRoom.jpg> With ISDN lines,
and a couple of clients hosted servers.

A few years ago I re arranged it, and amalgamated the servers, and finally
I've gotten around to taking some photos, see below.

<http://www.os2site.com/photo/ServerRoom1.jpg>
<http://www.os2site.com/photo/ServerRoom2.jpg>
<http://www.os2site.com/photo/ServerRoom3.jpg>

Looks a bit bare now :-)

The top computer is ns1 dot comkal dot net, with secondary mailserver/ircd and
primary dns, the case is one I shoehorned a replacement motherboard
into back in 1998, for anyone that thinks it reminds them of an ancient
3Com Terminal Server :-)

The bottom computer has everything else, mail/ftp/http/smtp/pop/dns/lists
mysql/perl etc. A second ADSL is fed into the network from upstairs,
which will move downstairs when I get around to rewiring. The TP
network cabling comes in on the board under the power points.

If one fails, its all replicated on the other.

Cheers
Ian Manners

Hi Ian,

Thanks for this insight into your computer room. I suspect I may
have more computer & comms equipment in my home Office than you do in
your data centre now !

Are the servers OS/2 or Linux ??

It might be nice for you right a breif article for os2ezine or voice
on the setup if you have the time, since you and your os2site dot com are
well known in the OS/2 & eComStation community.

Cheers/2

Ed.
