Subject: Backing up warpcentre settings

Hi does anyone know of a way of backing up the warpcentre settings ?

From time to time my Warp 4 CP2 FP5 system loses all the icons from the
Warpcentre and it's a real pain to have to add them back manually.

If there is actually a file that contains the information, I'll add it
to os2.key so that it is backed up with the achiving feature at every
boot, as this problem usually occurs after I have had to restore from a
previous archive.

Any suggestions ??

Cheers/2

KEYFILE:C:\OS2\DLL\dock3.cfg
KEYFILE:C:\OS2\DLL\dock4.cfg
KEYFILE:C:\OS2\DLL\dock5.cfg
KEYFILE:C:\OS2\DLL\dock6.cfg
KEYFILE:C:\OS2\DLL\dock7.cfg
KEYFILE:C:\OS2\DLL\dock8.cfg
KEYFILE:C:\OS2\DLL\dock9.cfg

KEYFILE:C:\OS2\DLL\dock14.cfg

Hi Kev,

Yep sad day indeed, but I'm thinking seriously about doing the same.
Ecs is too unstable now. Anyone who disagrees (and I'm sure there's a
few) obviously has the magic system that:
* Boots every time (mine doesn't)
* Doesn't need to revert to an archived desktop when something goes
wrong (see Ed's latest post)
* Doesn't turn itself off whenever it feels like it. (mine does)
....and said people must also have advance degrees in CLI's in order to
get all these ported apps to work, even IF the CORRECT instructions are
supplied.

I'm not flaming anyone so please don't think I am and take offense. I
just know that at this stage non of the above has happened in Windows
using the same hardware. Just last week my system powered off during
boot; every boot; just when I reaaly needed it for a presentation I was
giving that week. I'm sorry but all the great things that OS/2 (ecs)
has over Windows is no good if it can't stay, or even become functional.

Right now I'm weighing up the options. Do I cross over to the dark side
on a system that I know works there, or do I spend up reverting to an
all Intel system in the hope that that will solve the issues I'm
having? Your thoughts are welcome.

Cheers
G

My experience is that some systems are fine - take my desktop now 2
years old a pentium 4 using .0 - an sis chipset. However i ran into
trouble recently with newer laptops using sata and irqs above 15 - at
the moment acpi is not very useful on these newer systems.
Neverthesless i found a really good laptop which i am writing this email
on a new compaq v5000 presario which works fine with the latest ecs beta 2
even with the built in wifi 54g - using genmac 1.7. the only thing not
working is the pcmcia -due to a high irq.

Hi Ed,

That's all current Unimaint uses for its desktop backups -- with path of
course! :-)
As in :

"<path>\ZIP.EXE" -j "<backup-path>\SYSWC01" "<bootdrive-usually-but not
necessarily, if current desktop located on another
drive/disk>:\OS2\DLL\DOCK*.CFG"
"<path>\ZIP.EXE" -j "<backup-path>\SYSWC01" "<bootdrive .....as
above>:\OS2\DLL\SCENTER.CFG".

restored with :

"<path>\UNZIP.EXE" -o SYSWC01 -d <bootdrive .. as above>:\OS2\DLL\

Regards,
Mike

Ed,
There is a component of Compline.zip on the OS/2Site that
does this.....RAR32 compression. The background is explained.
I am not at my computer now and the Lipitor is helping me forget
the details...I think :-)
