Hi All,

Just a heads up if you intend installing the latest firefox build -
it doesn't "play friendly" with Thunderbird 1.5b2.

this is a recurring problem as versions increase. For a long time to
be able to get (even the same versions of) thunderbird and Firefox to
run together and link between each other, one had to either write cmd
files or use the RUN! program to avoid conflicting program modules.

With Firefox and Thunderbird v 1.5b2 this was no longer neccessary
and the two programs ran together without problem. Even just a small
increment to the version of Firefox from 1.5b2 to 1.5rc1 and the problem
has returned. At the moment there is no OS/2 Port of the Thunderbird
1.5rc1 code (which exists already for Windows, Mac and Linux), let hope
when we get an OS/2 port of this the problem once again is history.

As far as I know this version clash problem does not happen on the
other platforms, so I suspect it is may be libc.dll related.

Cheers/2

Ed.

fyi here I can "sometimes" open ff when tb is running but not hallways
a url link in tb will open ff with no problems
if i open ff first, then open tb, a url link in tb will open another ff
session
I am not using the run command yet, as suggested earlier
Another problem i have is if I leave tb or ff running over night I will
lose the link from ecs to my adsl modem/router, I need to reboot to get
dhcp to run properly,
I believe it may be a problem between ecs-my nic/driver or the computer
Dell Optiplex GX 200 P111 833
on board nic disabled
256mb ram
PCI Realtek nic
will live with it for the moment

Firefox 1.5rc1 and Thunderbird 1.0.6 play well together without any
problem. I just tested a mailto: out of Firefox 1.5rc1 and the
Thunderbird 1.0.6 compose window opened as expected. Thunderbird 1.0.6
also open URLs in Firefox 1.5rc1 as expected.

Hi Peter,

I think you have several problems - comments interspersed:

This was the effect I also had with versions of TB & FF of the 1.06 /
1.07 vintage - are you running v 1.5 ?

Some routers (Linksys being one), has a bug in the code where the DHCP
server component stops working from time to time. The solution is to
configure a regular restart using TRON or similar within the router
itself. By the way, the way DHCP works is that once allocated, a DHCP
address has a "life" (default eight days I think) but at half of this
time it will check if it can renew the address. If the DHCP server is
not there, it may complain but will keep using its address until the
"life" is up.

If you are not moving your eCS system around (ie it's a laptop), then
set static addresses in TCPCFG2 and you don't need to worry about DHCP
anymore.

As I noted above - I would rather think it could be a router problem -
check the router's support site to see if anyone else has the same
problem. I would not expect this to be a NIC, NIC Driver or FF/TB
problem - personal experience says, these options are very unlikely.

Ok - thought so. Install Firefox 1.5b2 and Thinderbird 1.5b2 into new
directories (not over the current versions), run configapps to set these
two versions as your default browser and mail client and the program
starting issues will go away.

Hopefully when we get TB 1.5rc1, the same will be true of FF 1.5rc1
and TB 1.5rc1 together - the key issue is don't try running versions
together.

Cheers/2

Thanks Chuck - that's interesting ! But I don't particularly wnt to go
back to TB 1.06.

Some problems I have seen are not obvious and depend upon which program
loads first. The only combination that has worked flawlessly for me has
been FF & TB 1.5b2. I haven't tried FF 1.5rc1 and TB 1.06 though.

The Yuan MPG600 was bought from a Sydney based retailer. If you are
interested, I'll dig out the details. At the time I bought it, the PVr
150 did not exist, only the PVR 250 and 350 at around A$300 and A$400
respectively.

Was your reference to the PVR150 at $150 a question or a statement ?

My Yuan is a retail not an OEM product. I have not come across OEM
versions of either the Yuan or Hauppauge PVR cards.

Sorry I wrote the email a bit quickly. I have tracked down a guy that
sells the MCE for $150 as an OEM product - ie no software and no
remote. I was wondering which was thw better buy - by thw sounds of it
the Yuan is okay.

Can you share with me where to buy a Yuan? I am in Brisbane.
