Hi Alan,

Just to confirm the terminology -- are you copying to CD, as stated, or
to DVD?
The 2GB filesize limitation won't apply to any CD that you may be
writing to whether using RSJ or anything else, only to DVDs! With your
current config.sys setting of 20000 kilobytes [20MB] for the cache size,
having four of these will still only account for 80MB, which is zilch on
a volume with 2GB+ free.

Have to admit I don't understand. In my maybe not so good book, when a
disk is filled with (a) file(s), that filling-up is a _physical_
phenomena, or to but it otherwise: when there is physically no room
(free space) anymore on a disk it's logical to assume it's filled up. :-)

Something like that indeed.
So, if you have forgotten to point the rsj cache to another partition
than the boot drive, and your eCS partition has the recommended 700 MB at
1.5 Gige size, you are bound to get in trouble when you fiddle around
with rsj and OCR and things like that. Especially as the temp files
remain _physically_ present in their full glory after an undue rsj
abort. :-))

Hi Kris,

Filling the *data* area of the disk has no connection with the MBR or
any EPBR.
In Alan's case as his cache file was only 20MB on his boot partition
which had 2GB free, that's no problem. It's simple to put a .cmd file in
your startup folder that deletes all files in the %TEMP% & %TMP%
directories and RSJ temp directory if different, at startup.

Hi Alan

What date, time, and size is your x:\OS2\DLL\PMMERGE.DLL file ?
And what version/Applied FP of eCS ?

Good = 12/08/04  14:40    1269583           0  PMMERGE.DLL
BAD = 29/12/04  19:33    1270499          49  PMMERGE.DLL_CP_FP5
Good = 16/07/03  18:51    1269677           0  PMMERGE_DLL.BAK

The FP5 version of PMMERGE.DLL caused me a lot of grief with
large JFS disks and corruptions, and also some other wierd things
like being able to read/write files to and from the drive over the network
but any read/write locally would freeze the computer, also had wierd things
happen to RAR and CDRecord. Others have had wierd and wonderful
things happen with
"29/12/04 19:33 1270499 49 PMMERGE.DLL"

Hi Ian,

I recently used eCSMT for the very first time, and of course this system
at the time was an almost virginal eCS1.00 [it's the only one I have
applied eCSMT to, so far - awaiting a response or two from Chuck
McKinnis] and of course FP5 was one of the items processed. My new
Archive directory shows that previous edition was from 2000, and I
notice that my eCS 1.13 editions are dated 2002. I just had a quick look
on os2site and came up with :

    Search of /sw/

Could you attach me a copy of that August 2004 version please? Or advise
where available.

p.s. I had a very smooth transition to FP5, but notice that the system
seems a lot less responsive than it previously was - haven'tencountered
any of the disk problems you mention, but that may be because I don't
have any gargantuan volumes - nothing over 5GB here on JFS [or other].

Hi Mike

Some people report no problems, others have problems, the
CP-FP5 PMMERGE.DLL just doesnt like somethings, or the
other way around. I'm not sure if eCSMT applies the backout
for OREXX and PMMERGE, there is one available from chuck
in the same directory on the ecomstation ftp site.

Hi Ian,
Thanks for the information.
Was watching the Tennis for a while there!
I do remember a note that SNAP might need to be re-installed after
applying FP5 - I did so after allowing the FP5 to overwrite current
files, and that improved things significantly.

Actually with eCSMT, was surprised that there was nothing in place to
update the original eCS 1.0 eCS-Clock [the horrible L.E.D. version that
never worked properly on my system] to the eCS 1.1 version that works
fine, after applying the 19/07/2003 fix the author sent me to correct
the time drift that occurs in zones that don't observe DST.

Found out that I could just copy the eCS 1.1 eclock-tree [from
x:\ecs\system\eclock] to a new eCS 1.0 y:\os2\eclock\ tree and copy the
clkdll.dll from x:\ecs\dll to y:\os2\dll, then make desktop objects for
the World Clock and the Task Planner.

Good heavens!

Are you guys so short on diskspace or what? In order to have never
problems of that kind, just point to a VERY LARGE partition would say
(Pointed here to a 72 Gig jfs-partition with 40 gig free).

No wonder you had problems, as I'm pretty sure your swappath was/is
pointed to that same partition too.
Anyway, to point your jfs temp files to your boot partition must be
avoided at all costs. For the very reasons you now are aware of I'm sure.

Hi All,
I've started work to make Sane work with USB Scanners on OS/2 using the
usbcalls package by Markus Montkowski available from Netlabs.

As a precursor, I've compiled sane-find-scanner.exe which correctly
identified the scanner on my machine.

I'd appreciate it if testers with a USB scanner would download
http://smedley.info/sane-find-scanner.zip and send me the report from
running:
sane-find-scanner -v

Note that this may require a newer version of usbresmg.sys than eCS 1.2
ships with. I had system traps with gPhoto2.

If traps in os2krnl are experienced with this build, please update
usbresmg.sys using the package at http://smedley.info/usbresmg.zip

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

NOTE: this will not scan - all it will do is detect (hopefully!) a USB
scanner attached to your PC.

Cheers,

Paul.

Hi Ian,

I have eCS 1.1 installed. I applied eCSMT some months ago to bring it up
to 1.2 level so I am not sure what level it is at.
Running 'ver' says the version is 4.5.
 Re: PMMERGE.dll
Creation date 1/12/04
Time: 10:39:56

I have reinstalled eCS from an image since my recent troubles and hence
the time problems with my Emails. I don't think the time statement in
config.sys was altered in this image and I have lost the alteration I
should make to correct matters. Could you advise what it should be.

Incidently, tonight Mozilla mail froze when I tried to start it so I
had to reboot and again the system wouldn't boot and HD 1 couldn't be
seen. Nor could I boot my floppy version of DFSee. I disconnected
everything and set up the PC on a table where I could check it and it
booted correctly. I then tried the previous Primary disk but it wasn't
recognized so the partition tables are definitely corrupted.
Why is this problem recurring? Till recently it's been a reliable system.

Regards,

Alan Duval
