Hi all Bigpond users..

Use a FYI that I got a call from Bigpond on Monday to let me know that
months after I requested it, comp.os.os2.ecomstation is finally
available on the Bigpond News Server.

Cheers,

Paul.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the availability news.
Unfortunately, here, as a non-Bigpond member, who applied on Dec 15th
for the $0 connection to ADSL, and yesterday receieved [just] the
following from them:

    Dear BigPond(tm) Member,

    Reference Details:
    Your Order Number is: 06abcde

For ADSL applications, the telephone service number you provided is:
    (07) 55248670

The purpose of this email is to advise that your BigPond Broadband
    application has now been cancelled.

If you have any further enquiries, please do not hesitate to contact
    one of our consultants on 1800 246 872, Mon - Fri, 8:00am - 10:00pm
    (EST).

    Yours faithfully,

    The BigPond Team

That's not what I would consider good PR from Telestra/Bigpond!
Especially as they had it noted that preferred contact was via e-mail!

Do yourself a favour and check out the plan searcher at www.whirlpool dot net dot au

Whilst I personally think Bigpond Cable is a great option given how fast
it is - just about any ISP is a better deal that Telstra for ADSL!!

Cheers,

Paul.

Hi Paul,

Yes I realise that , but with cable not available within about 20km [no
more going to be laid] and as Telstra are the only ones to actually
supply the copper lines for ADSL here, no alternative providers without
that basic line quality, and although Wireless access is available
locally, I'm about 2km from their tower, which happens to have an
intervening ridge cutting off line-of-sight and thus access.

It was the lack of *any* explanatory reason *why* it was cancelled that
p***** me off!

I understand the feeling about no reason for not providing the service,
I have had similar. If the wireless near you is the unwired network, try
the 30 day money back trial. I understand you can go to Harvey Norman
and pick up a kit. If it works great, then you can keep it. If it
doesn't then just return it for a full refund.

regards
Ken

Hi Ken,

Happy New Year! BTW I did end up going across to the $16.50 fixed ISDN
Internet Plan.
Thanks for the tip - I can't remember offhand which network it is but
do remember that it's Qld. based and Tweed Heads South is the only
outlet south of the border, at this stage.

Addendum - this was the site I had looked at previously - I had
forgotten how much the associated gear was!

http://www.qconnect dot net dot au/wireless.html
But the monthly limits are somewhat better than Telstra give on their
512/128 [400MB/month] for $39.95!

Hi Mike

Happy New Year. Just started back to work this week after spending a
week on the Gold Coast and a week at home relaxing.

It's a pity about the wireless network though. I am glad I am on unwired
through veritel as I think it would take forever for Telstra to fix the
copper network to allow adsl.

regards
Ken

Hi Mike

It looks like they have a 30 money back trial. The only 'funny' was the
comment "unopened if sealed by the manufacturer". You would have to hope
that the box the modem turned up in was not sealed.

regards
Ken
