Hi all

Here is a question for modem gurus amongst you.

If your ISP has V90 56k modem ports, will a 56k Flex modem
still connect ok, and at what speed ?

56k 2x, and 56k Flex are the original competing 56k semi standards
before 56k V90 was released to be the one Standard.

Cheers
Ian Manners

Ian,
V90 is supposed to be compatable across both standards.
I'll check further at work today.

Michael

No I think it was that K56 Flex and X2 56k modems were designed in
such a way that they should have been able to be upgraded to the V90
standard. It is possible that some implementations of V90 also support
X2 and K56 but they don't need to and remember the ISP end of a 56k
link is not a modem rather a digital connection to a telephone exchange.

Most likely is the maximum that a K56 modem can connect to a V90
connection is 28.8 Kb/s. 33.6k was a stretch to the 28.8 standard, much
in the way that V92 is a stretch to the V90 standard.

Cheers/2

Ed.

Ian / Ed,
Bit more info.
The K56 Flex was the more direct predecessor of V90. (x2 lost out)
My isp iinet has some info on the subject. Try this url and see how you go.
http://www.iinet dot net dot au/support/modems/index.html
At the bottom of the page is suggestions on locking down to 44k, 33k or 28k
when the modem can't hack it.
Another point made by several people is that often the line is more of a
problem than the modem.
Regards,

Michael
