so, you can use CDRW (but not CDRs ?) with 'normal' copy/format etc commands, ? that's neat

Hi Alan,
As Ed said, be *very* careful mixing partitioning tools.

For example:
Try using BOOTOS2 to FDISK a drive, (OS/2 Warp 4 FixPak 15), then
restore an eCS image known to fit within the FDISKed partition sizes.
It says there isn't enough space!

I actually think your problem is USB removable drive support is
installed.
From my notes for my 1st eCS install:

Change:
BASEDEV=USBMSD.ADD
rem BASEDEV=USBMSD.ADD
(Gets rid of phantom g: drive for USB mass storage devices)

Let me know if this works.

Hi Voytek,
Yes - with CDRWs (CD-R's cant be formatted with tracks and then
data written into the tracks - thats effectively re-writing). However
as you will have seen from my other emails, (For my setup), it's not
100 % reliable yet. Could easily be the media though.

I've now retested with Dani's IDE drivers (latest) and the IBM IDE
drivers (latest) and there seems to be no difference, so it doesn't
seem to be these drivers that are causing the "internal error" problem.

I'll buy a good quality 8X CD-RW disk and see if that fixes the
problem.

Cheers/2
Ed.

Alan,

When LVM tells you the "partition on this disc may be corrupt" and says that the
size is 96 or 97 mb, it is refering to your ZIP drive.!

You CANNOT get rid of the message UNLESS you put a zip disk in the drive
before you run LVM.

However, DO NOT DO THIS.

Just live with the message and IGNORE it.!

Hi there LVM experts:

how do you, with LVM:

transfer PRI/Active from BM to C: ? and, v-v ?

with FDISK, 'twas simple, but, I'm just not sure how to with LVM,

basically, I'd like to temporarily deactivate BM, so, system boots from C:
ONLY, install windoze, renable BM

So far had no trouble and used Drive Image over the Weekend to restore eCS from an image without any
problem.

My Config.sys already has that line as remBASEDEV=USBMSD.ADD

I think Bob Traynor has the right answer.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks Bob. Makes sense to me as the icon for the 4th drive seems to be for a removable drive.
I'll live with it as the third drive is working OK.

Subject: [os2genau] There's no substitute for quality !

Re: CDRW - UDF Operating System support in OS/2 -

As I said I would, I have now bought a "High Speed" (6-10X)
CDRW disc to test, a verbatim. This costs AU$5.95 rather than
the AU$1.50 to AU$2.00 for the "no-name" makes, which are rated
at 4X max.

This disc formats without problems. Check Disk finds no
problems and I was able to XCOPY 650MB of files to it without
problems ?

Well could it be the speed of the drive (8X on CDRW) and the
other disks being only 4X ? I don't think so as writing 650MB
took nearly 4 hours! This would make the drive 0.25X speed, not
8X !! No it has to be the quality of the disc that makes the
difference. There's no way in OS/2's UDF support that I found
to control the CDRW writing speed, so I can't limit it to 4X
if I had found speed was the problem.

Conclusion buy good quality discs and the OS/2 - Operating
System level CDRW support works fine.

Cheers/2

Ed.

We had the same experience at work with WinNT and Adaptec CDRW software.
No end of bad results and coasters galore until we started to use good
quality discs.
