Thanks Ian, got it. My present client isn't working,
so hopefully this a newer or different version to the
one I have.

Ed,
I'm using ddup_3_0_1.zip which having just checked, is still working. I've actually
changed to using the static dns from dyndns dot org, as my IP address very rarely
changes, and there are no timeouts on the IP address. One day I'll get around to
writing a REXX script to check if my IP has changed and automatically update
dyndns dot org if it has, but for now I just re-run my script when I notice a changed IP
address.

Regards,

Paul.

Hi Paul,
  Where did you get ddup from ?? The client Ian pointed me to, is the
one I already had and it indeed has a rexxscript that is supposed to
check if the IP has changed and if so, update dyndns dot com. The problem
is it doesn't always seem to work - in fact it always seems to say the
address hasn't changed and so no update is needed. Also as my gateway
is running on OS/2 Client rather than server, I have no scheduler to
force this program to run say once a month. It only runs if I ever
restart the firewall, and OS/2 being what it is, I only ever have to
restart the firewall if Telstra (my cable ISP) are having some problems.

By the way, my IP address is also pretty static. It's probably changed
once in six months, if that, but I tested by changing the entry at
DYNDNS.COM, and the client still said my IP address matched when in
fact it didn't.

If an IP address isn't "touched" in six weeks, DYNDNS remove it from
their database. They warn you via e-mail but usually only a day or
so before removal. Hence if I could get a client that a. worked and
b. I could possibly schedule to run using robojob, I could set it all
up and forget about it.

Cheers/2
Ed.

Ed,

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/internet/dynip/ddup_3_0_1.zip

If you sign up for a static hostname - there is no 21 day timeout - once I cobble together
a rexx script to automate the change once the IP updates I'll let you know.

Regards,

Paul.

Hi Ed

As Paul pointed out

>http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/internet/dynip/ddup_3_0_1.zip

Also in the same directory I pointed you to, my apologies I
gave you a bum steer, should have been one of these :-
The one I pointed you to is for a different purpose, I've
never used them so the old brain gets them mixed up.

ddup3os2.zip
ddup_3_0_1.zip
ddup-301.zip <== I would try this one first.

Subject: [os2genau] Fixes updated automatically by eCSupdate tool and fixpack #1

Hi All,

Anyone got any pet performance tweaks/issues/corrections for eCS/MCP.?

To start the ball rolling here is some of the most recent:-

As a result of running the latest fixpack eCSupdate tool and eCS
fixpack #1, the following config.sys entries were corrected or inserted
or even removed, ie "rem"-med out on my system (where x: = your boot drive):-

REM following line replaced by eCSUpdt ; "SET desktop=x:\DESKTOP"
REM SET desktop=x:\DESKTOP

REM following line inserted by eCSUpdt ; is a recommended system setting
SET SHELLHANDLESINC=20

REM following line replaced by eCSUpdt ;was wrong setting, THREADS=192 too small
THREADS=1024

REM following line replaced by eCSUpdt ;was wrong, "SET JAVA_HIGH_MEM=1"
SET JAVA_HIGH_MEMORY=1

This one is very commonly set wrong and is not altered by the eCSupdate tool.
Time zone for Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra should be:-
SET TZ=EST-10EST,10,4,0,7200,3,4,0,10800,3600

Ian Manners has also recommended manual changes such as:-
was:-
IFS=x:\OS2\HPFS.IFS /CACHE:64 /CRECL:4 /AUTOCHECK:<put ALL hpfs drive letters here>
Use:-
IFS=x:\OS2\HPFS.IFS /CACHE:2048 /CRECL:32 /AUTOCHECK:<put ALL hpfs drive letters here>

Also, it appears performance related to leave the JFS.IFS statement in the config.sys
even if you are not using, or do not have ANY, JFS formatted partitions at all.!
For more complete info, please refer to the recent Os2Genau emails concerning
"Re: [os2genau] Slow processes in eCS", particularly Ian Manners' replies.

The following may be updated by eCSupdate tool (I do not know for sure, as I
already had them entered manually):-
EARLYMEMINIT=TRUE
CLOCKSCALE=4

I personally advise that ALL os2/eCS/MCP should have :-
SET RESTARTOBJECTS=STARTUPFOLDERSONLY,REBOOTONLY

And I prefer to have the warpcenter start from the Startup folder and remove
the WARPCENTER entry in config.sys:-
was:-
SET AUTOSTART=TASKLIST,FOLDERS,CONNECTIONS,WARPCENTER
change to:-
SET AUTOSTART=TASKLIST,FOLDERS,CONNECTIONS
This is a long known stability issue with complex os/2 systems and probably
will flow on to eCS.

Some others I prefer:-
SUPPRESSPOPUPS=D
AUTOFAIL=YES
PAUSEONERROR=NO

I also prefer to move all the references to LOTUS in the LIBPATH, PATH and DPATH
statements towards the rear of those lines. Why.? Because I seldom use Lotus Smart
Suite and would prefer to give slightly quicker access to my preferred apps such
as networking and RSJ etc and programs that are in everyday use.

Any more out there.?
Everyone jump in.

BobT.

The directory you pointed me to, was the correct function,
only it was the same version as the one I already have.

I'll take a look at ddup.

Thanks

Ed.
