Subject: [os2genau] MS big break

there was a nice story on the news today about two Aussie buskers who were invited by Bill G to play spanish guitar in
USA, (presumedly at Comdex);
the buskers were quoted as saying that it was MS software that enabled them the record their music;

of course no one know, or cares, that it was the same BG that destroyed the development of a music app for OS/2: there
was a US company developing a music app for OS/2 (some years ago), MS bought the company, the app (then in beta)
dissapeared. (I can't recall off hand the app/company name, it was advertised in OS/2 catalogue, and, I've spoken to
them at the time)

a) InnoTek announces Virtual PC for OS/2

InnoTek has partnered with Connectix Corporation to develop,
distribute and market virtual machine solutions providing Windows and
OS/2 integration.
Virtual PC for OS/2 is based on patent-pending Connectix technology
to enable customers using IBM OS/2 Warp to execute additional
operating systems at the same time on their OS/2 desktop. This is yet
another way for customers to integrate Win32 applications into their
OS/2 based environment. Unlike Terminal Server based Solutions, this
even works on mobile systems (laptops) without any kind of LAN
connection. Get the product flyer:
http://www.innotek.de/products/virtualpc/Virtual_PC_OS2_Flyer.pdf

Connectix Virtual PC for Windows will be amended by InnoTek OS/2
Additions for Virtual PC to provide the best platform for executing
OS/2 under the Microsoft Windows platforms. Web Site:
http://www.innotek.de/products/virtualpc

For a Proof of Concept (PoC) or deployment in your environment,
please contact IBM Enterprise Warp & Workspace Services at
mailto:emeawarpatde.ibm dot com.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++
b) InnoTek Co-StandbyServer for e-business - High availability
clustering on OS/2

The successor of Legato Systems' (formerly Vinca) well-known
clustering solution "Vinca StandBy Server" is now ready to go. Unlike
it's forefather, InnoTek Co-StandbyServer for e-business now supports
LVM-based system, i.e. it runs on IBM OS/2 Warp Server for e-business
(Warp 4.5) and higher as well.

It also inherited the "Active-Active" capability from the Beta code
of "Legato CoStandBy Server", i.e. there is no need for a dedicated
standby server hardware. For example, a Lotus Notes server can be set
up to be taken over by a DB2/2 server as soon as the Notes server
fails - and vice versa!

For a Proof of Concept (PoC) or deployment in your environment,

c) WarpStock Europe 2001 Conference

The Warpstock Europe 2001 Conference will be held on November 2-4,
2001 at the 'KH Limburg' College near Hasselt, Belgium.
 * the session schedule is nearly final, see
http://warpstock.os2 dot org/en/program/
 * Golden Code Development comes as an exhibitor to present the new
version of their Trace Suite. They also give a half-day workshop
about it, and visitors get a 20% reduction when buying.
 * VirtualPC will be presented, and beta copies will be available at
the show
 * Friday is a working day, and we scheduled many business related
topics then so that corporate users can visit the event during work
hours. Of course, those sessions will be repeated once over the
weekend too. Topics: WSoD, Golden Code Trace Suite, StarFire Titan,
VirtualPC, Co-StandbyServer, LSMT
 * We, EMEA Warp Team, will be there as speakers and contacts for
you!

d) Convenience Pak 2 getting closer

As announced, IBM is releasing a Convenience Pak, for both Warp
Client and Warp Server the 4th quarter of a year. Also this year's
fourth quarter started and we see CP2 coming closer, giving, once
again, great new features and updates to current options. This
includes, but is not limited to:
 - Fixes to JFS, UDF, USB
 - Many new drivers in Base Install, like IBM's SciTech version,
T20-23 support, etc
 - TCP/IP 4.3.2
 - new Kernel features and improvements, like Dump processing
 - Includes latest Software Choice optione, like IBM Web Browser for
OS/2

To get more informations, please see us at WarpStock Europe, or sent
an email to
emeawarpatde.ibm dot com.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++

e) SmartSuite 1.7 about to release
We got confirmation from Lotus Development, that they are about to
release SmartSuite 1.7 for OS/2 to the public. English version will
be first, other NLV to follow in december.

Smartsuite for example, now supports im- and export of Word and Excel
documents created for Office 2000 and Office XP, along with many
other fixes.

Their even might be another version (1.8?) coming down the road. If
there's something, you might want to see in there (fixes and little
features), sent an email to emeawarpatde.ibm dot com and we will see, what
we can do. No promises
!!!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++

That's it for now. Stay tuned for the next NewsFlash.
Warm
regards.

I don't think so, there was a color ad with screen shot in OS/2 catalogue,
but, no, it was called something MIDI...? I'd have to find the OS/2
catalogue to check.

what was (is?) Ceres SS ?

	It was sound edit app which claimed to offer multi-tracking and full
duplex, such that you could hear what you were recording as you did it
(including I think hearing what you were recording on top of). I tried it
and couldn't get it to work. It's out of development now, but the company
still sells the Windows version and is/was working on a Linux version.
