Has anyone been able to get any webcam working under os/2 ?

If so which model and using which interface and which software ??

Does anyone know of a video server for os/2 (perhaps a linux port ?)

All of the above would need to be H323 (I think this is the correct
standard) compatible.

Cheers/2

I believe Axis doesn't need a PC at all - it's an Internet "device" running
embedded Linux isn't it ? I suspect this would be quite pricey.

Yes it is:-
About $1500, but it is a true Internet appliance:- plug it in & it
goes.
Saw one demonstrated using a browser on an Atari.

yes, PC is optional
no idea what it runs. it's a TCP/IP appliance:
you arp it an IP address, then, browser connect to that IP to config/set it
each time you access the 'output' URL, it snaps a pic, and, sends a jpeg to browser
the new one can now do some sort of video, the earalier ones just did single frames

pricey ? compared to a toy, I suppose so.
I guess it might cost as much as the PC it doesn't need

OK, Thanks to the clarification from Voytek and Daryl. I had seen
ads for this device before, although thought it was advertised as a
true video streaming solution rather than just stills.

As you infer Voytek, if I were looking for a commercial solution
for a customer, this would be very interesting due to its plug in
and go, OS independant TCPIP network device nature, but I'm
looking rather at something to use to videophone with friends
back in Germany, which probably means (unfortunately) a
windoze "solution", but I'd prefer an OS/2 compatible one.

Does anyone know the extent that Virtual-PC will give hardware
(USB) support under Win98 under OS/2 for digital/web cameras ?

Also Daryl, you told me that In-joy firewall wont work with
Microsoft Net Meeting. Does it have a problem will all video
conferencing apps or just the MS one ??? There are several
alternatives. I've just bought the Novemeber edition of one
of the Australian PC mags (PC-User ??) and it lists and includes
several videoconferencing software packages.

Cheers/2

Subject: [os2genau] "internet keyboards" under OS/2 Warp 4

I am reporting success with getting a cheap ($29.95) Office-one
"internet keyboard" from K-Mart working with Win95key OS/2
software.

These are the keyboards with graphically represented additional
small button-keys along the top of the keyboard (above the F keys).

For example, you can use these keys to control multimedia volume,
to launch your browser and to shutdown the PC. With the Win95key
software you can grab the key code from the keyboard and then
assign an action to it. The documentation is not that claer and it's
taken a while to work out how it works and to set up the keys the way
I like them but it's another example of OS/2 programmer producing
the goods for free to enable OS/2ers to use the newer Windoze hardware.

If anyone else wants to use these keyboards, I'm happy to help with a
few
tips and tricks on this forum.

Cheers/2

Hi fellow SIGers
At Yahoo! there are three groups, connected with Odin and =
wordprocessing, that you should check out, I opine.

Time: 6:30pm
Location: Large SIG room, Melbourne PC User Group, cnr Wells & Dorcas

The Monthly Meeting of Melbourne OS/2 SIG

News
Surprise, surprise, Bill! OS/2 will be able to run Windows 32-bit
programs: Connectix and InnoTek are working with Serenity Systems on
the VirtualPC. A better Windows than Windows, all over again... [the
nightmare resumes for Mr Gates]

eCS-OS/2 Basics
We will have another Basics segment on
a) the use of the Button 2 menus, layout of folders and organising
the Desktop and
b) Programs, Objects and Associations.

eCS Java - Bloodstains on the Coffee Mug!
With the excellent help of Ian Manners just last Saturday I managed
to restore Java functionality to my Desktop machine. Here's a report
on what I did wrong (lots!), and what Ian helped me to do right.

eCS EA-TERY - Topelz Pizza. We may even talk about what we should
call ourselves. <g>
