A small problem with the list software replacing email address.

You can check your vulnerability online at Steve Gibson's Research page at
http://grc dot com

Try checking your shield and your ports.

Hi Graham,
Ian Manners is on the right track with hardening a gateway.

Another thing to look at is not running the gateway on anything higher
than a P166.
The reason is, is even if they hack into it, they don't have a lot of
processing power to play with, meaning they are unable to mount serious
Denial of Service Attacks.

Running IJF using NAT on OS/2 is excellent, due to the lack of OS/2
experts out there, they are less likely to get anywhere using usual
Windoze or Unix commands.

NAT itself is quite secure, as Ian has already mentioned.

Essentially you need to make an OS/2 box without:
REXX
TCP/IP Applications
Java
File & Print

All you need is MPTS.

Subject: Re: [os2genau] SOLA 520RM UPS (Was Hacker questions)

Hi Graham,
The best software is the Tripplite software, which is client-server.
The SOLA UPS software does not work with OS/2 Warp 4, (or WS4eB), it
only works with OS/2 Warp 3.

The server part of the Tripplite runs on the PC with the serial cable
from the UPS.
Any machine which also runs from the UPS needs the client software
installed, including modems etc.
*Do Not* run your monitor from the UPS!!!

The Tripplite software is a generic UPS software which, with the
appropriate script file, can be made to work with the SOLA 520RM UPS.

This will have to be written based on the protocol specification of the
SOLA 520RM.
Whilst this won't be too hard, someone has to do it :)

I have 2 other clients using the SOLA UPS, so it is on my "to-do list"
but it has not been scheduled.
