You need a chkdsk /F:3 against that partition.

And before anyone dares to bumb in: chkdsk /F:3 is not dangerous!

Only problem is you need a good working Odin package onyour system. Meaning for instance
you need a batchfile in order to have a happy Opera launch.

Are you saying, I need to have/install ODIN before I can try Opera ?

I wonder if Telstra would happen to be using NT servers? Especially
since MS trumpeted loud and long 3-4 years back that they had
displaced OS/2 in "mission-critical" network applications areas.

Wonder if Telstra bods have actually made the connection between the
two events??

Hi Ed

sigh!! The gist of the interview was I felt., we will help you all to move to anything
else so long as its away from OS2!

Despite all this I have a gut feeling that gradually the world is waking up and MS by
its present pricing of windows OS and MS Office , will eventually bring down its
own downfall! sad that IBM is not quietly preparing OS2 to be there when it
happens!

Correct, OS/2 will never take over from Windows but then again Linux won't
either.

The future is NO OS on the workstation - or if you prefer - it doesn't matter which
OS is on the workstation - as long as it can support a standards compliant browser
and JAVA.

This is going to take a couple of years, may be 5 to come, but come it will with
network devices taking over from PCs. The "grunt" will return to the central systems,
and only if there's a very special reason will anyone need a personal workstation.
In this case it'd probably be a unix based power workstation.

In short, it's back to the simple efficient days of the 70s and 80s but with all the
useful advances from the last two decades and none of the bloat.

I don't think Microsoft will ever be able to realise this, let alone evolve to it. IBM
is already planning it and providing the route there for large corporates, whether
they are presently on OS/2, NT, Novell or Linux.

....... Hmm - that should provoke some coments !!

Cheers/2

Ed.

Were you in my office this morning?.

I was discussing this with a work mate, saying that for most families
an os2 or linux box could today easily provide the power for all
household computing except serious gaming, even for a family of 10, if
"terminals" were used. These would be on an RF lan, lcd diplay, etc.

Sony have a new BeOs network device, there are a few linux devices, sun
has produced for in house use some thousands (and thousands) of linux
devices that boot in 7 seconds or something. The time is comming, the
technology is here now.

I also se that XP will not install with java support by default. It
will be up to the user to install a java runtime.

Hi all

Apologies for the outage over the past hour, our main UPS deceided
to blow its output stage, took a while before I smelt it :-(

Lets hope there are no power failures until I get it fixed, or
replaced :-)

Of cause it would have to be os2site dot com and os2 dot org dot au UPS.
