Stan.
I have only used the netgear print servers, never again.
They were a bit "flakey", often needing rebooting and their print client didn't
work.

I've been running Unimaint for a couple of years, and it has saved my
skin on at least one occasion. Normally I am not even conscious of it,
as I start Uniwatch minimised in the background with every system
reboot. Would you think Deskbak to be a better option than using
Unimaint's "Supplementary Backup" process, with Uniwatch doing the
desktop backups?

Hi All

Unimaint does a good job of DeskTop backups, including the
needed files for the WarpCenter (SmartCenter as Lotus called it).

I do a backup of my system every few months or so, as I tend not to
change much, and I've never needed to restore it so far under
normal circumstances, if I do ever need to, then the new items I
can add as I need them. I stopped using the WarpCenter a while
ago, and just load it when needed for my graphics programs. I
suspect the Warpcenter itself could be the cause of so many Desktop
failures, as the PC's that dont even load Warpcenter when booted,
have never appeared to have DeskTop problems, were as the two
PC that I did have load WarpCenter from the startup folder (I always
remove it from config.sys), are the onces that I have on occasion had
to restore the DeskTop ID.

I do know it does work though, back in 1998 when I upgraded my
PC from a P200, I transfered my C drive to a new PC300GL, and
for some reason the desktop didnt take, I tried resetting the desktop
ID, no go, so just ran the restore script that Unimaint provides,
perfect ! (You need to remember to creat the script, or regenerate
it if you move your desktop, or you have just installed UniMaint)

You can also do a desktop backup with products like RAR, or any
other product that can backup EA's, with the proviso that you need
to know what files are required to be backed up.

I dont use UniMaint at all on my servers, just run checkini every
year, and use RAR to back them up, its also a good way of
transfering a basic server setup to a new machine.

I also prefer Checkini for ini file cleanups, as its quicker for me
to run than it is for me to start UniMaint. UniMaint is also invaluable
for messing with the internals of your ini files, and EA's, just make
sure you have backed up, and/or know what you are doing.

I must find the time to use Graham's Utilities more to, I just never
seem to get there, though I do use his ListDirectories and FileDate
utilities a lot.

Cheers
