This ones a puzzler !

You were right with Basedev rather than device= by the way.

Where in Australia are you located ??

I wonder if you can get to one of the user groups install days.
I know SA and VIC run these, not so sure about NSW but I'm in
Sydney, so maybe we can work something out here.

Hi Ed,

I'm in Melbourne and a member of the OS/2 Sig group. We are going to have
and install fest for ECom Station 16June, so i'll go along and get it
installed and hope the others can help me get the printer installed. It's
so frustrating after hearing that you had no problems and making sure the
drivers were available before purchase.
If I still can't get it working then i'll have to get my old printer
repaired and sell the Epson. Maybe over the years my version of OS/2 has
become corrupted and ECom station should fix that.

Thanks for your help.

Alan

Just another thought Alan - can you replace the printer
cable (I know it works under windoze but windoze 9x
printer drivers don't check several things).

As most companies I have come across have stayed with office
97 and not upgraded to Office 2000, I suspect even less will
consider upgrading to Ofice XP.

Hi Ed,

I thought about this today. I haven't got another cable so I think i'll
buy a cable to the specifications suggested in the manual. My present
cable comes off my ZIP drive so i disconected the Zip drive and took the
cable directly from the computer to the printer but it still didn't
work. Your suggestion is worth a try. Probably won't be able to do this
till later in the week.
My HP Deskjet 660 was working on this present cable till it started
playing up but maybe the Epson setup is more critical.I know Bob Traynor
always says to check the hardware if nothing else works.

Regards,

Alan

Actually, usually HP printers are also critical of printer cables,
but as I say if you could borrow another one for a test it would
seem useful.

You just mentioned that the printer cable went via your Zip
drive. You didn't mention this before. It is possible that the
software that drives the Zip drive could be what is stopping
your printer from printing.

Can you disable all Zip related software and drivers (in
config.sys) and see if, after a cold reboot, the printer then
works ?

Good Luck

Ed.

I got the latest MS Communique magazine and the price for XP
is over AUS$1000- even for the standard edition. I think you
have the name right!
