Subject: [os2genau] ubject: [OT] HP Laserjet 5 PCL printer memory

G'Day from the Coat-Hanger City, <g>..

I've got a HP Laserjet 5 PCL printer that (unfortunately), I'm printing
a lot of bitmap documents to.
I'm wondering if putting more memory into it will speed it up, or is
more memory really only used for processing complex PCL, (vector), jobs.

Subject: [os2genau] Questionnaire about Impos/2 Update

Today, a survey has been put onto os2 dot org (http://en.os2 dot org) that
asks for interest in an updated version of the highly acclaimed image
editing software IMPOS/2. In the questionnaire, you may also indicate
features that are important to you for improvement or addition to this
new version. Compart (http://www dot compart dot net), makers of IMPOS/2, have
indicated their willingness to come up with a new version, provided at
least one thousand subscribers will preorder the upgrade.

This survey is to find out if we can gather the required number of
users interested in such an upgrade. Even in case you're not
interested, please vote as well so Compart can properly gauge the
user's interest. Estimated cost for the upgrade will be ca DM 100 / $
50. Please find more details on os2 dot org.

Please repost this message if you feel you can reach additional OS/2
users by doing so. Also take note that os2 dot org is in no way affiliated
with Compart.

Will definitely speed up your jobs - memory will hold more of the print job - esp if it's bitmaps.

It will, meaning print speed will come closer to waht specs are saying.

Adding more memory to a laser printer will increase the amount that
can be stored in it. Early lser printers were sometimes called page
printers, in so much s they would form the page in memory and then
print it out in one go. With limited memory in these printers you could
get your page with graphic appearing half printed in one page and
then the other half printed on the next page. Often the only way
to get a complete page to print was to drop the printer resolution
down from say 300 DP to 150 DPI, which of course caused a
reduction in print quality - graphics and text.

Whether lser printers now a days still use the same method or not
I don't know. Perhaps some use the excess memory as some sort
of print buffer, which won't speed up the printing but it will
release the PC earlier for other work.

Subject: [os2genau] hpfs0312.zip on Testcase

While getting the latest kernel from Testcase happened across a file
called hpfs 0312.zip which containsthe files:

        hpfs.ifs 12/03/2001 14:05
        hpfs.sym 12/03/2001 14:05

Would I be correct in assuming these are updates for the hpfs file system.
Has anyone installed these?
