Ed,
The scanner is a KTX V-Scan 2400 - a 24 bit colour flatbed scanner.
It came with a Win interface card but also had scsi ports for a Mac.and
most importantly a Mustek GA1502 chip. I went to a Mac shop and
bought an Apple scsi cable, scsi (ultrawide?) to DB25 and a gender bender.
The
Adaptec card has the single DB25 port, the scanner has the gender bender
and regular scsi ( ultrawide?)port. I must say I had the surprise of my life
when this thing fired up with the Impos/2 software - by trial and error I
found the
chip married with the Microtek E2 driver. I can still remember the
moment!
So, what you are saying is the 2940Au board I am getting from Peter Allen
may not be the go. I'll have a look at it on the Adaptec site. What else is
there? A new cable...

Thanks,
Mike

what do ppl use for remote access/control to windoze pcs ?

MS remote desktop ? VNC ? ?

does any of them allow like a 'one to many' gateway to LAN PCs behind NAT ?

I have a following problem:

user receives a Word file in Outbreak, it opens, when 'print' is clicked,
the print dialogue comes hidden behind MSWord and the user decides 'it's
not working'

googling found similar issue for a FoxPro invoked Word/print, but, nothing
relevant as yet, if anyone has any suggestion...

 From what you say - I suspect all you may need is a different cable - I
don't think the 2940 has a DB25 connector - so you will probably need a
standard (ultrawide ?) cable with the same plug on each end - but wait
unit the card arrives, or check at the Adaptec website.

2940U has high density 50 pin;
2940W/UW has high density 68 pin;

if you have W, you need to terminate the high bits

you can get high density 50 pin to DB25;
you can get 68 to 50 converter

Ther are RDP clients for OS/2 but if I remember correctly they are
X-Windows programs.

Installing VNC server on each of the Windoze boxes would probably be the
simplest if this was behind a simple router, If you're using NAT you
will have to hard-code the routes to each of the systems in the router.
Given that you can chose which port to use for VNC - this could suit
quite well as it would simplify the additional route configuration.

Just had another thought - you could use PC-Anywhere on the PCs as (I
think) it can be accessed via Web Browser - but again the NATting could
create a problem for you.

Hi Voytek - sounds like a Windows problem - probably better posting to a
windows list.

I've never come across this problem.

I think I might just try setting up RSM to do it

Guys, I'm afraid you are a bit drifting of. To the scanner it doesn't matter which scsi-card had been put in the slot. If the operating system recognnzes the scsi-card, the scanner will work, provided the scanning program (Impos/2, Tame/2 Twain/2) suppors the scanner. Full-stop!

So, if you scanner worked with _some scsi-card+Impos/2_, it WIL WORK with an adaptec 2940QU + Impos/2.

I give you my money-back guarantee.

No, but I would suggest your user (I asuume) installs OOo version 2.03
for Windy and opens the file that way. That would give him the
oppertunity to look at better an alternative too.

is OOo still as big bloatware as it used to be last time I looked at it ?

not a good choice, the user just wants to type up stories, count how many
words they have, and, submit, not really interested in experimenting
