For reference :-
Darryl Sperber posted an article on Google groups comp.os.os2.setup.misc re 
chapter and verse of updating Warp3 and 4 to ultimate free updated state from hard 
disk
(repost) OS/2 Install - fixpak application  Jun 15 2003

Some links are out of date but the method is foolproof

i.e. it worked for me!
