Subject: Melbourne PC OS/2 SIG Meeting next week

Tuesday 24th August.

Who Dares Wins!!

While MS is battling P2P sites which offer XPSP2 for download (hells bells
178Mb!), Serenity Systems pounds away steadily at releasing updates to eCS,
and IBM lawyers wipe the floor with SCO (http://lwn dot net/Articles/98036/).

Imagine - eCS plus a heap of extras comes in at about 700Mb but a FIX for
Windows is nearly 200Mb.

So Clippy's nemesis Tux is on the march again (more useful than Clippy and
twice as cute!). Linux developers can breathe a little easier and we
alternative OSs can all go back to more serious work like providing
applications that people will *want* to use.

Next week MelbPC OS/2ers will
a) enjoy a preview of eCS1.2 RC8 (or later)
as well as
b) crow over SCO being thrown out of court by IBM in the Linux copyright
case.

For all eCS users at 1.0x level this will be a valuable update. Plan to brave
the weather and have a good look at the new release.

You may find that those nagging little annoyances you have put up with can be
overcome with one new CD!

Best regards
John Angelico
