In my surfing I have discovered in the Linux SANE areas the following:
http://cyberelk dot net/tim/parport/parport.html
which reports on development efforts towards a PP-SCSI driver to handle such
models as the 5100C.

The page claims success with the HP-5100C particularly, but I would be
interested in knowing if the parport driver has been ported to OS/2 along
with the rest of the SANE package.

If it has, there is scope for other parallel port sharing devices
(ZipDrives?) to work as well, and I may be able to resurrect my old DOS
MicroSolutions BackPack drive :-)

Hi John,

  Since OS/2 2.1 there have been parrallel port drivers for OS/2 ! These "should" still
work under Warp 4. Is your HP scanner one with a parrallel to SCSI convertor of
sometype because I do seem to remember seeing an OS/2 driver for same, from HP - check
their website. I'll send you the parrallel port ("shuttle") drivers for OS/2 that I
have off-list. These are supposed to work with Zip drives. Remember though, that the
parrallel port isn't that quick when compared to SCSI or USB.

Cheers/2

Ed.

Told you already, the only two // port devices reported to work (a bit)
in OS/2 are the Medion and Mustek, which means only one device as the
Medion and Mustek are exactly the same.

Yes. Read the tame/2 readme and start the experiment. You will be the
very first one ever to try a HP 5100c under OS/2.
We will be happy to applaud your reports of success.

Nevertheless, I would advise you to take the HP 4c. Will save you lot's
of time and money.
The 4C is 600*600 optical, the 5P is 300*-600 optical. The latter being
plenty of enough already. The 5p also is a device that would be
prederred by the lady in the house.

G'day Folks,
The HP 4p scanner has a female Centronics 50 & female DB25 connector. It
is SCSI.
Parallel ports have a female DB25 connector, mentioning HP4 in the same
sentence as parallel is not helpful.

Say $40 for the 5p & $60 for the 4c.
Delivery should be around $15 each by Aussie Post in Australia, maybe less.

Subject:   How much?

I have an eBay search for OS/2 that sends a notification when something turns up. Last week, someone put
up four packages, copies of: 1.0, 2.0, 2.1 and 3.0. I noticed today that they had all finished, and I was
surprised at the results (with links to the auctions if anyone is interested):

2.1 - had a starting price of $1 and didn't sell.
<http://cgi.ebay dot com dot au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2782975340&category=1247&rd=1>

2.0 on 5.25 inch diskettes - sold for $1.00
<http://cgi.ebay dot com dot au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2782959632&category=1247&rd=1>

3.0 Connect on CD- went for $13.49
<http://cgi.ebay dot com dot au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2782976985&category=1247&rd=1>

But, the surprise package was:

1.0 on 5.25 inch diskettes - started at $10 and went for $178.00!
<http://cgi.ebay dot com dot au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2782946821&category=1247&rd=1>

So, who out there urgently needed a copy 1.0?

Hi David,

They'll probably auction it in 2025 for about the then equivalent of
today's $1 million! :-)
Honest it wasn't me!
