Hi Chris

Ipssend are the utilities I tried before but they would not
allow me to create the 1st array.
If you put the CD in any pc booted from hdd & run ipssend,
you will see the options & instructions on how to go deeper.
This will not hurt anything. I found ipssend.exe in >programs
>os2>cmdline on the 4.70 CD. In the books dir, there are pdf
files that may help. I am currently using a backup pc so I
can't read pdf so I can't look for you. but I did run ipssend
without a raid card in the machine. If this doesn't do it
for you, give us another yell.

Kev - why do you think os2genau was moved from Yahoogroups to os2 dot org dot au ??

Yahoogroups is a REAL PAIN IN THE *RSE ! Unfortunately it still hosts the majority of
the interesting newslists !

The trick (I think) is to go and get a yahoogroups userid and password and then
subscribe via the website ONCE YOU HAVE LOGGED ON WITH YOUR USERID - otherwise as you
say, you'll keep going around in circles.

Subject: Clarification of support for USB scanners

Here is a reply from Franz Balkan on the SANE-OS2 list. It
explains for me a guide to which USB scanners are infact
supported by TAME/SANE under OS/2.

The moral of the story is, if you want to run a USB attached
scanner under OS/2, make sure it's a true Epson USB scanner
and not a rebadge of a cheaper make.

>Is there any way to get the Epson Perfection 1670 USB
scanner to work with Tame ?

Sure, but it's not so simple,

There is a 'USB-Version' of sane/2 which is
included in the TAME Package.

It supports _some_ Epson USB-Scanners.

The problem is that there are epson scanners
that are 'real' epson scanners and use the
'epson scanner language'. Those scanners are
supported by the 'epson-backend' of sane.
This 'epson-backend' has been compiled for OS/2
by Maeda H. using VAC-Compiler and is included in TAME.

But there are also epson scanners that are no
'real' epson scanners and don't use the
'epson scanner language'

The Perfection 1670 for example is such a product. It
is supported by sane but uses the 'snapscan-backend'.

As far as I know until now nobody has set up an environement

that compiles sane including the _snapscan-backend_ and
the _sanei/sanei_usb.c_ module that has allready been
developed by Maeda H.

So somebody has to do it. You have to set up a build
environement for sane and ask if you can get sanei_usb.c
from Maeda H.

If you have some knowledge of compiling C programs and
some spare time it should be possible.

But most likely it will neither compile nor work 'out of the
box'
so you have to invest more spare time for debugging.

But at the end it's possible that you have your 1670 working

under OS/2. If you need help, the guys on the sane-devel
mailing list are helpful, and you could ask other people
working on open-source-software. Most likely they will try
to help you also, but of course the main work has to be
done by you.

Franz

Indeed. Prior to all, creating yourself a Yahoo-id is mandatory.

Hi Chris,

If you're not using a Servraid 5,6 or LSI chipset Servraid controller, you should be
able to download the dos boot diskettes still to support / configure the servraid card
from http://www.pc.ibm dot com/support - then type in the part number of your card in the
search box.

Alternatively here's the OS/2 support CD image:

Ed,
Hi.
You will need to use the ICAT Debugger included in
the Java SDK.
I have never used it so you will need to read the documentation.

Good luck!

Ed,
No I don't know as I have not installed it.
I would assume so although it may be in a different path.
I have Suns Java SDK for 1.4.2_02 installed on a Win2K machine
and it refers to the Java Platform Debugger Architecture
(JPDA) in it's documentation,

http://java.sun dot com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/jpda/

The Innotek build for OS/2 may be structured in a
similar fashion.

Subject: Raid Problems Part II

For those of you who have been following my woes with the IBM ServeRAID
card, things have gotten worse.

The ALR SCA backplane that I was using has toasted itself.

Specifically, the only real chip on it that I can not replace myself is
dead.

It is an Altera 7032LC44-15T chip. Which is an Electrically-Erasable
Complex PLD.

I am about to get a new SCA card in the next few days.

Now, the question is: Can we read the good one and use it to program a new
7032 (if I can get one)? And, does anyone have access to a programmer?
Preferable in Melbourne! :-)

Is anyone able to help?

The dos disk gives you IPSSEND... Which is why I asked.

Mate!!! Someone's kidding someone. I've just spent nearly 20 chasing my
tail till I'm dizzy trying to get established in Yahoo Groups. What a
crock of unuseable s...!

I'll give the news groups a go.

Windows is not the answer. Windows is the question. The answer is NO! We
use and recommend IBM OS/2 Warp and Serenity System's eComStation.

What is the app?

Have you enabled verbose class loading to see what is being called?

I work in Java pretty much 100% these days...

Hi Kev,

In that case just subscribe to news.ecomstation.nl| dot com and then pick
the group[s] you want to read out of about 30 there.

There is a major "trojan" outbreak currently that commenced around 10
a.m. AEST Tuesday, that has really screwed up a whole lot of sites
including access to Yahoo - mainly ISP problems here in Australia - I
couldn't even get a connection to the Weather Bureau's Public-access
server in Melbourne - to get the radar pix to see when to pull all the
plugs here due local severe storms. Seems to have now cleared up with
my ISP - Dodo!

Or did you have full-speed access to Yahoo - I get 8KB/sec to/from there
with one ISDN channel - earlier it was in the double-digit
*bytes*/second area.
