This is so stupid, and to be honest, its really pissing me off.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/53/32187.html

Yes, I use Linux, AIX, and OS/2, and I'm proud of it, and I will
definitly not be paying anyone any money for the right to
use something I've already paid for, gee's I cant even get
IBM to talk to me about upgrading my AIX.

Note that SCO's licensing fees are in US$

So I wonder when SCO will introduce the AIX licensing fees ?

Hm, and when will they be introducing OS/2 Licensing fees,
as I use LVM, JFS, and WSeB SMP, as well as eCS SMP.

I think it is really up to the US Legal System to follow the lead
of the Germans, ie, put up, or shut up.

Well that's good news - the extra question is whether this solution also works with
Firebird ?

Can't see why not - I believe the problems were more related to GCC than mozilla. I'd
imagine that Mike & co would have put the fixes into the Firebird code too.

Hey, I'm on an RDO today & tomorrow - I might try it and report back :)

in all this dispute, just ONE thing is CERTAIN:

a lot of rich lawyers will get richer.

just as an aside:

last week, I had a surgery, I just recieved bill from the anasthetic doctor,
about $385 for 75 minutes worth of care; she litterally had my life in her
hands;

unrelated, I also received a bill from my lawyer, for persuing a small
debt: reading letters, writing letters, phone calls, for similar lenght of
lawyers time, about $450

why would anyone want to be a doctor...

Hi all.

First look at 0.6.1 is good!

On my P166 machine (Cyrix chip) with 64Mb RAM, new Firebird runs faster
(loading, rendering), starts faster (30secs vs 45 secs) and restores from
Swapper faster than 0.6, but may have a memory leak problem. My unused swap
is declining steadily.

I have had a look at the prefs.js and can't find any reference to Java
options, despite the Tools/Options setting to enable Java. So I am decidely
unsure about how to do things like point it to v1.3.1 or 1.4 or Innotek's
version etc.

I have a niggling suspicion that Java support was one of the things dropped
out of early builds, but I can't find anything in the old Mozilla/Phoenix
pages about it. In fact, the word Java (apart from Javascript) is
conspicuously absent...

This is consistent with my experience of Java websites - any attempted
download of Java modules causes Firebird to fold its wings, disappear from
the screen and plummet like a stone into the etheric void.

I notice that the whole thing has slowed down a lot. Even SCO is huffing
and puffing a lot less.

I think they might have been applying some "The Mouse That Roared"
strategy, and IBM seems to have called their bluff by refusing to buy them
out - which is probably what they are after.

However,

http://australianit.news dot com dot au/articles/0,7204,6877617%5E15306%5E%5Enbv%5E,
00.html

MS has some new concerns now, and may not be able to continue pushing their
SCO stalking horse in the anti-Linux campaign.

They may have to help George Dubbya to fight a cross-Atlantic trade war to
get them off the hook in the EU.

A small quote (with translation from MS-speak):

"Microsoft spokeswoman Tiffany Steckler in Paris called the EU action
"unfortunate" and refused to comment on whether the company would make
concessions.

"We will of course respond to the statement of objections ... and continue
to focus our efforts on finding a positive resolution," Ms Steckler said. "

[We hate their hard-line attack because they figured out what we are really
doing.

We will fight this thing tooth and nail! We simply cannot afford to have
the EU brand us as a bunch of criminals. The whole branding strategy would
be at risk and Marketing would have a pink fit .]

There is little doubt they could rival the Marketing Dept of the Sirius
Cybernetics Corporation, if they get clear of this one.

Subject: SEC: UNCLASSIFIED:- Object Rexx

It seems that I have been seeing INF files and references to Object rexx
for quite some time.

Now that I need to investigate it I can't seem to locate it.

If I recall corectly it was an optional install, and so was common or
garden variety REXX

Now I can only find PMREXX in the selective install

How do I get to use it

Also How can I find out the REXX version number.

I am told that certain versions have some of the goddies from Object rexx,
like returning stem variables from functions.

I tried a test script but it didnt work

I had a play today (gotta love RDOs!!) and couldn't get Java going either. Typing
about:plugins in the URLbar showed that the Innotek Java plugin was being seen, but trying
to start a Java applet via the browser brought up a 'plugin required' message on the one site
I tried (Bank SA Internet Banking). Same site loads fine with Mozilla & the Innotek Java
plugin.

Cheers,

Paul.
