Subject: FP15 and Dialog Boxes

Hi all,

What is it with FP 15 that would mess up dialog boxes in a few programs. The
Important programs in question are Colorworks V2 patched and another program (not
important though) is Links for OS/2.

The symptoms are missing parts of the dialog boxes, and in the case of Colorworks,
half the image is black when zoomed or minimized to the Colorworks desktop.

Originally I thought that it was SDD that was the culpret, however after reverting back to
an old SDD that I know did not have this problem (ie before fp15 update) to find the
problem was still there, I now know it is FP15.

I do have the SET ENH_STRETCH=NO line in config.sys to stop washed out icons.
Any ideas?

Cheers
G

Hi Gavin,
I can't offer much except to say that I run Colorworks V2 with
FP15/16/MCPx/eCS 1.0 and very shortly under 1.1, only base installation
CD#1 implemented so far, on this machine with NO problems at all. What
was that patch you were referring to - the only thing I updated on mine
was to get the "Lesson 8" from 9th March 1996 from Ian's os2site dot com,
was there something else?

Mike

Hi Mike,

There are two patches. One was from SPG before they stopped OS/2 support, and it's
for fixing the information bar at the bottom of each canvas in Warp4. The other, and the
one I was refering to, is for SDD drivers and Colorworks crashing when using gradients
or stacked previews. The problem now is the Right hand side of canvases not being
drawn if scaled to less than 100%. If Mr. Administrator would allow, I could post a
screen shot to show what I'm talking about.

BTW my Warp4 revision number is 14.062, which I'm pretty sure is FP15. After a quick
search on google I found that colorworks has had this problem since FP13.

You say you don't have this proplem on your FP15 system? That's interesting.

Cheers
G

Not anymore, the kernal is to dated. I use AIX on the RS/6000

It makes sense to fine-tune the version of NT running on
your system today, turn it off.

If memory serves, FP13, 14, and 15 had some minor problems with
PMMERGE.DLL which was fixed in subsequent verions of that file,
I had a similar problem around that time, and a testcase version
fixed the problem.

Try pmmerge0927.zip in http://www.os2site dot com/sw/upgrades/patches/
only if the filedate is more recent than the one on your PMMERGE.DLL.
As always BACKUP before replacing !

Description :- IBM TestCase PMMerge file. Fixes up a few minor
problems with fonts and displaying, apparently also
fixes system freeze opening/closing NS 4.61 x times.

Can't seem to get it Ian. The new pmmerge.dll extracts as a data file and will not
change to an executable no matter what I do. I have renamed the old file
pmmerge.bak but still holds it's exectutable flag. The problem with dialog boxes and
colorworks remains, which leads me to think that the new dll is not executing and the
one renamed to .bak, is. I didn't think that was possible but.... unless there is a nice way
to replace these things that I don't know about. Any instructions?

Cheers

I just found a new IBM X-series server today, that was delivered,
pre-installed with OS/2 Warp and Communications Server/2. The server is
considered a communications device rather than a "normal" Intel based
server, however that's exactly what it was.

if an IBM customer required a mainframe communications controller, where
they previously have been sold a 3274 or 3174 type controller, they now
will receive an X-series box with OS/2 running CS/2 ! (I guess at some
point this'll change to being Linux, but at the moment OS/2 is still the
choice for "mission critical" systems it seems).

Cheers/2

Gavin,

For this sort of nuts and bolts thing, don't use the GUI
interface. The GUI is for day to day stuff only.

Either use the commandline or use File Commander/2 for os/2.

Using the gui can result in the REAL name being unchanged
but the name YOU SEE (longname) is all that has changed.

BobT.

As it's a DLL, you never execute it directly. Other programs find it,
load it, and execute parts of it. Just replace the old one with the
new one, and reboot. Though, you may have to unlock the existing DLL,
or do this after booting from the command line.

But, I don't really think this is the problem. SDD has three extra
CONFIG.SYS lines you can add. Mine are:

SET SDDFONTSIZE=SMALL - SMALL, MEDIUM or LARGE
SET SDDFONTDPI=96 - 96 or 120
SET SDDICONS=SMALL - SMALL or LARGE

The defaults are based on the resolution, and, I think for 1024*768 or
higher, it is LARGE, 120 and LARGE. I find the settings I have make
dialogs and icons look better on my laptop at that resolution.

repmod will help with that (Unlocking):

[<echidna>-D:\]repmod
repmod (c)1995,1996 Secant Technologies
Not for resale, feel free to redistribute with acknowledgement.
Visit us at http://www.secant dot com

Usage: repmod oldmodule [newmodule] [backupmodule]

This program releases modules that are currently running and cannot
             be written to or deleted.
 - With 1 parameter, repmod releases oldmodule so it may be written to.
 - With 2 parameters, repmod releases oldmodule and replaces it with
             newmodule.
 - With 3 parameters, repmod releases oldmodule, replaces it with
newmodule and saves oldmodule as backupmodule

though, you'll still need to reboot to start using the new dll

well we have had an IBM 220X server running our file and print server with Warp Server (for e business )for almost three years!

runs a treat and no hiccups for months!

But it didn't come "pre-installed" with OS/2 did it ? That's my point.
