My Olympus C-120 (2MP, 8MB internal memory, 2.5X Digital zoom) works with the USB support on Os/2.

I attach the cammera to the USB port using the supplied cable and it appears as another drive
letter. The current model is the C-150 and that one is available for $198- at BigW.

Hi Voytek,

  When we get into the area of camera memory keys, there are so many different standards from
different manufacturers. It's go so bad now that to be safe, you can go and buy a six-in-one reader.

I have infact bought a Dick Smith memory disk with built in SD/MMC reader thinking that when I buy a
digital camera even if I can't connect to it directly via USB, I can at least take the memory card
out of it and put it in the key to transfer the pictures to my OS/2 system. As it turned out the
camera's USB connection to my OS/2 and eCS systems worked just fine !

SD (secure Digital) and MMC (multimedia memory card) are the older standard and use the same slot.
Memory stick is probably the newest standard and it promoted by Sony.

Many card readers are supported by OS/2 - the best place to check is http://www.os2world dot com/os2usb/

There are some freeware USB drivers there are some specifically modified drivers for particular
cameras for instance. These are all documented on the os2usb site. At the moment, the latest
(14/10/2003) IBM Software Choice USB drivers seem to give the widest comparability however not every
USB device is supported, so there is a risk, which is wht the os2usb site is so valuable. I have
documented the EMPREX camera and sent it to be listed to the site.

USB devices can be hot-added (there's a new monitor program with the latest IBM USB drivers),
however you need to right click and select "eject" to remove them. This is similar to Windoze
although the command has a different name.

Cheers/2

Hi Mick,

  Have you sent details of your success to http://www.os2world dot com/os2usb/ to be added to their

I am using eCS 1.0 - I installed the USBMSD drivers.

No, not yet. I only got it working last night. When I tried it first I lost all
network, NTFS and JFS drives. Then I saw a post with the parameters on USBMSD.
I unremmed the USB drivers, added the paramters and it worked properly.

BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS
BASEDEV=USBD.SYS /REQ:USBUHCD$,USBOHCD$,USBEHCD$
BASEDEV=USBHID.SYS
BASEDEV=USBMSD.ADD /FLOPPIES:0 /REMOVABLES:2

For those of you who use the command line the "eject" command also works!

Thanks Ed.

Text file piped to printer worked fine, so...
Removed all laserjet drivers, downloaded latest from IBM Device Driver site and
reloaded. Driver Version is now 30.797 and seems to be working as expected.

Thank you for the assistance

Alan

Hi Ed,
PMPDF will create PDFs, just use Copyshop, Imagescan/2 or Tame/2 to
"print" to the PDF printer. Exactly the same sort of process as faxing
to PMfax.

Will email them & ask. I don't have the time to install & configure the
software this weekend.

No problems. It's often the case that the simplest and quickest way is to de-install and
re-install even though its annoying not finding the actual fault. At some time in the future
you'll probably come across the setting somewhere in the driver and be able to say "that must
have been what it was", but it's more important to get everything working now rather than having
some deep investigation.

Yeah, for some reason when one installs the MSD driver without parameters it decides you MUST have an
USB floppy and USB CD-Rom drive and adds these to the drives folder, shuffling drive letters as it does
so ! Strange behaviour, I would have thought no USB Floppy and no USB CD-Rom would have been the default
but perhaps the target market is IBM Thinkpads, that have these devices.

if it's a bit map image, why would you bother to PDF....?
just scan to PMfax, and, that's it, bit pointless to go past that...
