Hello from Australia Charles!

Sorry about the delay in responding, but I have been out of email conotact
for a week or so.

I am replying as the SIG Convener, and copying your request to our mailing
list.

There is quite a diverse range of skills and knowledge represented on this
list, so I suggest that you will receive a number of comments and replies.
We are a mixed body of IT professionals, corporate as well as small
business, plus individuals and enthusiasts for OS/2.

To List members:
1. Please reply off the list initially, since this enquiry is likely to
include matters of commercial confidentiality. I have modified the
disclaimer clauses at the end of Charles' original email to protect
commercial privacy. Those who know the finance field and understand how
these things work would probably be able to read between the lines.
Meanwhile the rest of us won't have a clue, and that's fine.

2. Please allow Charles the courtesy of vetting your initial responses
within the framework of his project requirements and security parameters,
without getting your nose out of joint should he decline to entrust you
with too much internal data.

3. Given the corporate nature of the setup described, comments recommending
other mail/office suite software (eg: "what about Domino/Notes/Smartsuite")
will probably be a waste of bandwidth UNLESS there is no other way to
achieve Charles' required solution within the given parameters.

Hi Ed.

Sorry, I had done it as a cc: to the list when originally replying to
Charles but then I had trouble getting it to the list.

However as Alan has kindly posted the address it's all fixed now.

Chris
A work in progress - that is just so close to being ready for the world at
large but ............ It's that last little step.

I have written an accounting/job costing/marketing package for a catering
company, but now we no longer own the catering company.

Still, the general ledger section handles all my accounting needs, but to
make the package generally available needs a lot of cleaning up, to handle
    (a) End of Year Processing
    (b) GST reporting
    (c) Company reporting (ASIC details, profit shares etc)
and to fix a few bugs and not so slick processes.

I am using a Sybase SQLAnywhere Database, which is no longer available, so
I can reproduce for a single user environment with the Sysbase Runtime
license, I cannot provide the multi-user network version which I use.

On the credit side, I must admit to being biased (or modest?) - it is the
easiest to use accounting system I have seen for a while, with easy
reconciliation of multiple bank accounts (No MYOB find the line and hope
it's right stuff), unique system generated reference numbers (which can be
fiddled but not cheated), bank deposit slips produced when receipting
debtors, open item debtors and creditors, with proper audit trails and
ledgers, and little things like automatic post codes.

To finish it and make it generally available is not such a huge task now,
but as I see more applications I see more things that I want to put into
mine, and I just don't have the time or skill to implement some of them.

Until this job, just 12 months old, I have never had to use windows. I am
finding
it so frustrating, and so annoying that it is time to get serious about
finishing the system for my present employer. I know they are sick of
listening to me complain about the lousy computer system they are forcing me
to get ulcers over...........

Alan

Sorry - this is the short version

Bricks tied to a dogs head - that sounds like Animal cruelty, but I
suppose making someone use Microsoft products could also be descibed
as contravening human rights ??
