What is this "Bovine" client ? Bovine to me, means something related to
a cow !

Actually with the test programs I have already been pointed to via
several members including Kenneth from Denmark and of course Ian, have
proved what I thought - that with a PIII on a PC100 M747 motherboard,
changing the multiplier in the BIOS (to try to overclock the chip) has
absolutely no effect, although the Bios indicates a speed of 550, 600 or
650 MHz (There's no way it'll run at 650 - I was just trying to prove
the point), the Chip continues to run at its standard 500 MHz, no matter
what !

Thanks for everyones help

Subject: [os2genau] Problems with ATAPI Pioneer CDRW/DVD rom reader under RSJ.

Hi All,

I am using RSJ 3.61 (and have tried the latest 4.04 as well)
on my Pioneer DCR-111 atapi CDRW burner and DVD reader.
That is, it is all in one unit. Both a CDRW and a DVD reader.
My system is a combined IDE and Ultra160 SCSI and running eCS v1.01.

After a lot of tweaks and RTFM'ing the changes to my system
are as follows.

I have fitted a 80 wire cable to the 2nd IDE channel as
documented in Dani's doc file.

I have the following to turn DMA on to the CDRW/DVD rom drive:-
BASEDEV=DANIS506.ADD /A:1 /U:1 /BM

The above is from my config.sys where the CDRW/DVD rom reader
is on the 2nd IDE channel and is a slave to a zip 100 drive.

I have the DANIAtapi filter now positioned AFTER my scsi
Ultra 160 Adaptec card (although it made no difference):-

basedev=daniatap.flt /v /EJ /A:1 /U:1 /RSJ /SCSI
I should add that the dani utilities confirm these Dani related
settings are working correctly.!

One suggestion on the newsgroups was to put the line
DEVICE=D:\OS2\BOOT\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q
after the RSJ software. This made no difference at all.

I have NOT remmed out the BASEDEV=LOCKCDR.FLT as
RSJ will not even try and work without it.
The only RSJ line I have remmed out is:-
rem BASEDEV=RSJIDECD.FLT
And it made no difference with it activated either.
All other settings where as made by the RSJ installation.

I now have one drive icon for the same drive as a cd reader
or dvd reader and a separate drive letter appears when the
RSJ software "attaches" the drive as a CDR/CDRW.

I can write a very small text file to the CDR blank but not to a
CDRW blank. And I cannot write any large files or whole directories
to a CDR or a CDRW blank at all.!

Too bad it is unreliable and unusable as a CDR/CDRW burner.
Works 100% as a dvd reader or cd reader though. Sigh.

Perhaps RSJ will bring out a new version soon (I hope).!
I don't think they have written anything into their software
to support CDRW/DVD readers yet. Hope I am wrong though. :-)

Any meaningful suggestions.?

Regards,
BobT.

Have you attempted to use CDRecord at all? I've found that CDRecord
works in many situations that RSJ does not... might be worth a shot
(Although, I do know that RSJ is a very nice piece of software).

If you need help getting it to work, just ask.

Not quite right. The K7 XP 2000+ actually runs at 1.67 GHz. Since all
of your other comparisons are by MHz, this one should be too.
Makes the K7 look like it should too! (It is quite a bit faster than
all the other x86 chips).

Athlon XP 2000+ 5.40 Mkey/sec 32.39

And, just for comparison, a P4 2GHz (Northwood) can give you 2.878
Mkey/sec, for a whopping res/freq rate of 14.39 (boy! that was pretty
tough to find through google...).

According to this page, a P4 runs the client the same way a Pentium
does:
<http://n0cgi.distributed dot net/faq/cache/264.html>

Also, according to this page, the K7 is the second fastest chip at RC5,
behind the PowerPC (although, I don't see the Alpha in this roundup
either!).

Hi Rick,

Yes, I have tried CDRecord thru the GUI interface provided by
CDRwiz. While I have yet to have another go at it, now that
I have finally got the atapi system being recognised as scsi,
initially I discovered that the CDRwiz/CDRecord only enabled
drive letters upto M:. I need drive letters far beyond this.

My last partition is O: and zip becomes Q:.
My CD readers are S: T: with the cd/dvd reader as U:

As I have said, I have yet to revisit CDRecord but initial
fiddling was not hopeful. Naturally, I will rem out all the
RSJ bits before attempting to run CDRecord etc.

If you can give any pointers regarding CDRecord, I would
much appreciate it. Initially I had trouble getting it to
even load until Ian Manners gave me a zipped up file of his
working system. I used this to overwrite the CDRwiz
one I installed and at least I can now get the options
up to check and play with settings etc.

But until I can get a drive letter of at least V: I am shot.

I did not say this previously, but the CDRW/DVD reader is ok
in win2k and windows 98se with either Nero 5.5 or Easy CD Creator 5.

Regards,
BobT.

Can't quite be true. I'm using T: as my burner letter. CDRecord works
for this. I'm currently using:
Cdrecord 1.11a05 (i386-pc-os2_emx) Copyright (C) 1995-2001 Jrg
Schilling
Of course, I've got sparse drive letters (I'm not using all of them
between A and T).

I'm leaving town in about 5 mins or so...
but, see what the report of cdrecord -scanbus gives you. That is the
biggest trick, I've found (and to get the right version of ASPIROUT).

This is the output I get:
